Jessica Simpson is planning a Christmas wedding.

The singer-and-actress got engaged to NFL player Eric Johnson last week after a six-month romance and she is now determined to walk down the aisle over the festive period because she doesn’t want it to be overshadowed by the nuptials between her ex-husband Nick Lachey and his new fiancee Vanessa Minnillo.

A source said: “She wants to beat Nick to the altar. She knows that it is going to be tough to pull everything together on such short notice, so it might have to be a New Years wedding.

“In any case, she wants the focus to be on her wedding. She doesn’t want her wedding to be the aftermath of his.” (more…)

The timing of Prince William’s 2011 wedding to Kate Middleton is interesting.

“2011 would be Diana’s 50th birthday and also the 30th anniversary of her wedding to his father,” Katie Nicholl — author of William and Harry: Behind the Palace Walls and royal correspondent for the Mail on Sunday — told Us. “This will be William’s way to make sure his mother’s memory won’t be forgotten on the most important day of his life.”

Hailed as the “wedding of the century,” the late Princess Diana famously wed Prince Charles on July 29, 1981.

But Prince William’s ceremony won’t be at St. Paul’s Cathedral, where his parents’ televised I do’s attracted more than 750 million viewers. “That’s been ruled out by William himself,” a royal aide tells Us. (Short-listed spots: Westminster Abbey and St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.)

It still will be equally lavish. An insider confirms Britain’s Royal Mint is already designing a commemorative coin for the occasion, and June and July dates are being considered (a palace insider denies a report that July 23 is the date set in stone).

A Clarence House insider told Us the prince has also “made it clear that Kate wants her family to be involved.” But the Middletons “are bound to various secrecy agreements.” She’ll get to choose her bridesmaids — “definitely her sister, Pippa,” Nicholl told Us — but she likely won’t have a say in other details.

Said Nicholl, “It will be her job to look fabulous and be the perfect royal bride.”

She’ll definitely consider her favorite label, Brazilian brand Issa, though she “might be pressured to select a British designer,” Nicholl told Us.

And in keeping with tradition, London hairdresser to the royals Michael Van Clarke tells Us, she will likely be loaned a tiara from the queen.

Kelly Osbourne may look svelte and happy after her stint on Dancing With the Stars and a new exercise and diet regime, but as she told us this week at the Glamour Women of the Year awards, she hates working out as much as you do. “I don’t care what anyone else says, working out fucking sucks!” she said. “It does! It sucks! Especially when you have to look at yourself in the mirror sweating, you’re like, ‘Oh, my God. I hate this!’ ” Her advice? “Start small and do it with a friend and keep going from there. That’s the only way to do it. When you go in there and go, ‘I’m going to do this and do this,’ it’s so overwhelming.” Osbourne limits her workouts to half an hour. “I know I can commit to that.”

“I just shot the cover of Shape Magazine, which was such an incredible experience,” 25-year-old Osbourne told Us at Teen Vogue’s 8th Annual Young Hollywood party in Los Angeles back in October. “I have never worn a bikini in my life before yesterday.”

Osbourne, who now weighs 112 pounds, became emotional after seeing the photo of herself in a bikini.

“I cried when I saw the picture,” she said. “Everyone that was there, we all just burst into tears. It was a thrilling experience.”

The Walker Family better get ready for some fireworks! EW has learned that when Balthazar Getty’s Tommy returns home for the show’s 100th episode in January, he’ll bring along a feisty new lady love named Rose. She’s played by the gorgeous Cara Buono, best known for her depiction of Faye Miller in Mad Men.

“She is a hot-headed Italian, and I come home after having been gone for a while,” Getty told EW while attending a red carpet event earlier last weekend. “We’ve all been there, right?”

Getty and Buono are expected to appear in at least three episodes this season, with the possibility of more. Getty’s been missing in action this year; viewers are supposed to think his character has been up in Seattle to be closer to his daughter. The actor returns to the drama’s Los Angeles set today. “We have something really funny in store,” said Getty. “I told them, if I come back, let’s do something big. Let’s do something fun.”

So what excites Getty most about returning to the ABC drama? “Just to bully Matthew [Rhys] and Dave [Annable] probably. To try to distract them while they’re acting.”
