In a surprising development, the MPAA ratings board has slapped an NC-17 rating on Blue Valentine, the Derek Cianfrance-directed drama that is creating Oscar buzz for the performances of Ryan Gosling and Michelle Willams. The film, about the slow corrosion of the relationship between a young couple, was acquired by The Weinstein Company after its premiere at the last Sundance Film Festival. The film also played at Cannes and Toronto.
According to Deadline.com, here’s why:
I’m told the rating was given for a scene in which the characters played by Gosling and Williams try to save their crumbling marriage by spending a night away in a hotel. They get drunk and their problems intensify when he wants to have sex and she doesn’t, but will to get him off her back. That hurts his pride and the result is an upsetting scene that makes you squirm, but is an honest one that establishes clearly that this couple has nothing left and isn’t going to make it because love has turned into contempt. There is barely any nudity in the scene, as I recall (though I haven’t seen it since last January) and there is no violence. It was hardly a moment that would make you think, well here comes an NC-17.
They will most likely have to cut the scene in order to get an R rating, but we’ll see what happens!

Amy Winehouse is adamant she hasn’t used drugs “in almost three years” – and the former wild-living singer is determined to stay clean.
The Back to Black hitmaker’s addiction to narcotics and alcohol has been well documented over the years and the singer has endured several hospitalisations and treatment attempts.
In 2008, she headed to the Caribbean in a bid to finally shake off her demons and returned to her native London eight months later insisting she was clean.
She tells Britain’s Glamour magazine, “I’m much healthier now. I used to use drugs and I haven’t used drugs in almost three years. It’s not a hard thing. I literally woke up one day and was like, ‘I don’t want to do this anymore.’”

16-year-old Angus T. Jones, who plays Charlie Sheen’s nephew Jake Harper on Two and a Half Men, signed a new contract which makes him a very, very wealthy teenager.
He now gets $300,000 per episode, with a guaranteed 26 episodes. This means he’ll be making $7.8 million over the next two seasons PLUS a $500,000 signing bonus!
Charlie Sheen, however, also signed a contract, but he’s making a ton more. He’s going to be paid $2 million per episode, which means $52 million over the next two seasons. $52 million!!

Though he was arrested on suspicion of battery, prosecutors have no plans to charge Russell Brand for getting aggressive (or chivalrous, according to his fiancée) with a photographer at L.A. International Airport last month, E! News confirmed Thursday.
Er, so why does Brand still need to get himself to the courthouse on Nov. 19?
The “Tempest” star has to appear at a hearing, as does the paparazzo who made a citizen’s arrest following their fight at LAX, so that both can be lectured on the letter of the law and be officially informed that they’re in the clear…for now.
“This is the only action as of now,” L.A. City Attorney’s Office spokesman Frank Mateljan tells E! News. “Based on the info, it has been determined that this is the most appropriate action at this time.”
Mateljan says he has not heard anything about either side looking to press charges against the other.
Ke$ha is that you? Miley Cyrus is starting to look like every other young singer out there right now. It’s a bit weird to see her rolling around in bed in her underwear.
Here’s her new music video, “Who Owns My Heart”.
