‘Sister Wives’ husband being investigated for felony bigamy!

Yesterday I talked with you guys about TLC’s new show, Sister Wives (which I loved). Today, we find out that Kody Brown, and his four wives, are being investigated by police in Lehi, UT for felony bigamy. I wondered how they were getting away with this, since polygamy is illegal. I figured he’s just legally married to the first wife, and spiritually married to the other three. Is that illegal?
The new TLC show follows Kody Brown, his four wives, and their 13 children as they live a polygamist lifestyle in Utah.
Police told PEOPLE yesterday that they were looking into the family before the show premiered on Sunday. “We are disappointed in the announcement of an investigation, but when we decided to do this show, we knew there would be risks,” the Browns said in a statement Tuesday. “But for the sake of our family, and most importantly, our kids, we felt it was a risk worth taking.”
“At the conclusion of the investigation, the evidence will be forwarded to the Utah County Attorney’s Office for review and possible prosecution,” said Lt. Darren Paul.
In Utah, bigamy is considered a third-degree felony, but isn’t often investigated. Nothing like a reality show to rub officials the wrong way!
