Who would you consider to be the most innovative influencers in Hollywood? I was recently asked this question, and I really had fun thinking about who I consider to be the most innovative people in Hollywood today. Who is bringing something new to Hollywood? Who’s changing things up? Who’s looking forward and making Hollywood more interesting, bringing us into the future?
It seems these days that it’s hard to find an original idea in Hollywood. Movies are recycled, actors are making the same dull movies. It’s something spectacular when someone thinks outside of the box, and gives us something new and exciting! I can think of 5 entertainers who have done this in the past couple years, and I thought I’d share them with you (in no particular order).
#1 Sandra Bullock – How could I not mention Sandra Bullock? How could I not looooove the woman who gives us flops like What About Steve and hits like The Proposal in the same year? Sandra’s had a pretty rough year this year personally, with the very public breakup of her marriage to Jesse James. When the scandal hit – she withdrew from public, all the while adopting a gorgeous little boy from Louisiana. She’s now raising little Louis Bardot Bullock as a single parent in Austin, Texas.
While Sandra rose to fame in the 90′s, last year was definitely her most successful. The Blind Side (looove it!) not only earned her the Golden Globe, but also the Acadamy Award!
Sandra is probably my favorite actress. She’s one of those actresses who I’ll see whatever she’s in, no matter how good or bad the movie is. The Proposal and The Blind Side are arguably two of my favorite movies of all time. As of 2009, her movies have grossed over $3 billion. Not only does she act, but she also runs her own production company (Fortis Films) and owns a couple restaurants in Texas.
#2 Lady Gaga – I love Lady Gaga. Back in 2008 I had the opportunity of seeing her (front row!!) at a tiny venue in Portland, Oregon in front of – get this – 700 people. 700 people! These days 700 people would be sitting in the first couple rows! After the show, I was first in line to meet her, and I got her autograph. It was official, I was a Gaga fan.
My sister caught her Monster Ball Tour on Thursday when she came through town, and it was a sold-out show of 20,000 people. In 2008 she was new – and exciting – and I had never really heard of her before. She was that singer who did the wacky performance on So You Think You Can Dance. She’s mesmerizing, she’s original, she’s exciting. She’s just as innovative today as she was two years ago. Even if you’re not a huge Lady Gaga fan, you have to admit that she’s original, and whenever she does something new – you’re going to check it out.
She has just taken the #1 spot on Twitter with the most followers, and Billboard predicts her Monster Ball tour will gross $200 million. As of this month, she has sold more than 13 million albums, and 51 million singles worldwide. Not bad for a 24 year old girl from NYC.
#3 Christopher Nolan – I loved Inception so much, I’m giving Christopher Nolan a spot on my list. Like I said earlier, it’s really hard these days to catch a new and exciting movie. New ideas seem to be a thing of the past. But Inception is different. It’s exciting and could be summed up with one word: innovative. I haven’t seen a Christopher Nolan movie that I didn’t love. Memento, Insomnia, Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dark Knight - each of these movies are spectacular.
Inception – in my opinion – is his best work to date. Yes, I loved, loved, loved Memento. But there was something about Inception. It was so brilliantly done. (I probably should put Leonardo DiCaprio in this list, because I love him – and I think he’s very influential!) It was exciting, and it kept you guessing right up until the end. After the movie was over, I immediately wanted to see it again – and I talked about it for weeks. That’s the sign of a great movie.
# 4 Beyonce Knowles -Beyonce is just spellbinding. Whenever she releases new material you have to take notice. She’s beautiful and innovative, and constantly changing the world of not only music – but fashion as well. Her fashion line House of Dereon (which she runs with her mother) brings in millions every year.
Not only does she dominate the music industry, her business empire is expanding it seems like almost every day! She has sizable endorsement deals with the likes of Pepsi, Tommy Hilfiger, Armani, Nintendo to L’Oreal (to the tune of $5 million!)
Her R&B girl group Destiny’s Child was one of the worlds best-selling girl groups of all time. In 2003 she released her solo album Dangerously in Love, which went on to earn Beyonce five Grammys that year. She is one of the most honored artists by the Grammys, earning 16 trophies to date. She grossed $86 million during her 93-stop tour!
#5 James Cameron – This one seems a bit obvious, but he’s definitely a must for this list. Back in 1994, Cameron began writing Avatar. He was supposed to begin work on on the film immediately following his 1997 hit Titanic, but because technology wasn’t ready – he waited. And waited. When technology finally caught up with Cameron, he began filming in 2005. In 2009, the mega-blockbuster hit the screen to rave reviews. Not only did Avatar become the highest grossing film of all time, it also grossed – are you sitting down – over $2 BILLION DOLLARS!
America’s first 4G phone is also the first to deliver download speeds up to 10x faster than 3G and be a mobile hotspot for up to eight Wi-Fi enabled devices.
