Ryan Reynolds is Hollywood’s newest superhero, as he prepares to star in next summer’s Green Lantern. This week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly, which is the third annual Comic-Con Preview issue, takes a look at whether Reynolds’ power ring (and his six-pack abs) can save the universe.
As he was propelled at 60 feet a second on a wire to create the illusion he can fly, Reynolds opens up about the perils of flying at high speed. “The first time you do it, you’re deeply considering an adult diaper,” he admits. He’s spent countless hours training for elaborately choreographed fight scenes and maintained a monklike diet. “It’s all part of the job, so I guess I can’t complain,” he says. “You spend one day a week eating what you want and the other six days eating drywall and wood chips.”
Since being created in 1940, Green Lantern has been one of the most beloved characters in the DC Comics stable of heroes, but beyond a hardcore audience of fanboys, he’s basically known as just a guy in a green suit with a magical ring. “Green Lantern doesn’t enjoy the familiarity or renown of, say, Batman or Spider-Man,” producer Donald De Line acknowledges. “We have to make the movie stand on its own.”
Figuring out the right way to bring the story to the screen wasn’t simple. In 2004, reports surfaced that a zany comedic take on Green Lantern was in the works, but fanboys didn’t like it and the project quickly died. Greg Berlanti, a comic-book fan and TV producer (Brothers & Sisters), wrote a screenplay and pitched Warner Bros. an outline for a grand trilogy. “I had to convince them this was the most valuable property they hadn’t tapped into and that it wasn’t just a cartoony thing about a guy with a magic ring,” says Berlanti. “Of all the comic-book movies, there hadn’t been something with an Americana feeling on earth and an epic feeling in space.”
Reynolds got hooked by the notion that power-ring slinging intergalactic do-gooder Hal Jordan’s ring can conjure anything he dreams up. And the actor already had experience in the superhero realm, playing the acerbic Deadpool in X-Men Oirins: Wolverine and flirted with playing the Flash. Though a Deadpool spin-off is in development, Reynolds foresees no problem juggling two superhero characters. “Green Lantern is a totally different bag of tricks,” he says. “I wouldn’t think twice about playing a cop in one movie and an FBI agent in another one.”
With Reynolds’ wife, Scarlett Johansson, playing Black Widow in the Iron Man franchise, he says, “We have a lot of comic books lying around the house – more than the average young married couple.”
The actor reflects on the burden of carrying a superhero movie on his shoulders: “The pressure is all on me,” he says. “I try not to think too much about that.” He muses about the merchandising blitz that this summer tentpole movie will eventually unleash, a bonanza of green-hued products, each with his face plastered on it. “There’ll be the Green Lantern hubcaps,” he says drily. “The Green Lantern terry-cloth onesie. The Green Lantern prostate check.” For his part, there’s just one souvenir he wants when it’s all over: “I’m definitely leaving with a ring,” he says. “And maybe an ulcer.”

According to TMZ, Kelsey Grammer married his third wife Camille- WITHOUT A PRENUP!!!
Which is pretty shocking considering during the run of “Frasier” Kelsey was the highest paid actor on TV … making $1.6 mil an episode at the end of the show’s 11-year run.
As TMZ first reported, Kelsey is asking that some of his “Frasier” money be declared his separate property. Turns out, he was married in 1997, four years after the series launched. So Kelsey’s separate property request only covers the first 4 years. His earnings for the remaining 7 years, as well as much of the syndication money, will be considered community property.

A movie chronicling Joaquin Phoenix’s transition from an actor to a rapper is hitting the big screen. I’m Still Here – directed by Phoenix’s brother-in-law, actor Casey Affleck — opens Sept. 10.
Independent movie distributor Magnolia Pictures insists the flick is not a mockumentary.
Phoenix, 35, had fans scratching their heads two years ago when he began making a series of bizarre public appearances, including growing a scraggly beard and appearing spacey on The Late Show With David Letterman.
At the time, Affleck, 34, filmed all of Phoenix’s outbursts, claiming he was shooting a documentary. Many thought Phoenix’s antics were just part of an elaborate hoax.
Phoenix was nominated for an Oscar for playing Johnny Cash in 2005′s Walk the Line. His last screen role: The 2008 indie drama Two Lovers with Gwyneth Paltrow.

Lindsay Lohan arrived at Pickford Lofts (a sober living home founded by her new lawyer, Robert Shapiro) in West Hollywood, California around 3:45 p.m. local time on Wednesday, and managed to slip inside without cameras catching her.
Later Wednesday night, RadarOnline.com captured video of Lindsay’s on-again-off-again girlfriend, DJ Samantha Ronson outside the home. She visited with LiLo for about a half an hour before leaving to pick up some groceries and extra pillows for the Mean Girls star.
Lindsay’s mother, Dina, arrived at Pickford Lofts around Midnight, and didn’t answer any questions as she entered the home with another woman.
Then, around 1 a.m. Thursday, long after Sam had left, Lindsay’s other rumored gal pal, Israeli military vet Eilat Anschel, also visited her at Pickford Lofts.
As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Shapiro – whose now working with Lindsay – might be making a desperate bid to keep Lindsay out of jail, but the prosecutor handling the case, Danette Meyers, tells RadarOnline.com he shouldn’t waste his time.
“It’s a really a moot point to ask Judge Revel to send Ms. Lohan to rehab only as Judge Revel has already sentenced her,” Meyers told RadarOnline.com exclusively.

Oksana Grigorieva says Mel Gibson hit and bruised his baby daughter — and there are photos to prove it, RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned.
The images, which show baby Lucia with a bruise on her chin, are part of Oksana’s sealed declaration to the court, a source with knowledge of the situation told RadarOnline.com exclusively. And those photos will be a vital piece of evidence Oksana will use in court in Los Angeles Thursday when she goes before a judge in her custody battle with Mel.
On January 6 Mel and Oksana got into a vicious argument and that is when Mel punched her in the face, knocking out her two front teeth, Oksana has told authorities. She says that she was holding their infant daughter when Mel punched her and that he also hit the baby.
It’s a bombshell development in the war between the former lovers. Their daughter was only two months old at the time of the alleged incident and the source, who has direct knowledge of the photos, says it is unmistakable that the infant is bruised.
This evidence — together with the secretly-recorded tapes published exclusively by RadarOnline.com — are crucial to Oksana’s argument that Lucia should not have any contact with her father.
As RadarOnline.com first revealed the Russian musician has the secret evidence against her one-time lover stored on a DVD, including the phone tapes.
Mel asked a Los Angeles court to seal the evidence. That order was granted.
“The photos show a small bruise on Lucia’s chin,” according to a source familiar with the court file, under seal.
