Move over Tobey McGuire, there’s a new Spidey in town. Andrew Garfield has been cast as Spider-Man in the next upcoming film. The movie is set to be released in 3D July 3, 2012.

Director Marc Webb is enthusiastic about the replacement and had this to say.

“Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents. He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker,” says director Marc Webb, who succeeds Sam Raimi in helming the blockbuster franchise.

Garfield’s movie credentials include ‘The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus‘, ‘Lions for Lambs‘, and ‘The Social Network‘. He has also worked with Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan in ‘Never Let Me Go,’ which is set for release later this year.

I can’t wait to see what he does with the role. They made a great choice.
