My Review: “Sex and the City 2″

You want my opinion? Was SATC2 good? No. Did I like it? Yes!

Saturday night, I arrived at the movie theater an hour early – expecting a line for the new Sex and the City movie. (When I saw the first SATC movie, the line was enormous!) When I gave the attendant my ticket, he handed me my stub – and sent me on my way to the appropriate theater. I walked in – and realized the movie was just ending from the previous showing. I looked in the hallway, and no one was there. NO ONE. I went back outside, and waited in my car for my friends to arrive.

In the half an hour that I waited in my car, it seemed like no one was showing up for the film, which really surprised me! As we finally picked our seats, we realized we were with about 20-30 people in the theater. I pulled out the cocktails I smuggled into the theater, and the four of us toasted Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte.

The movie (which is a whopping 2 1/2 hours) starts off with a thud. The first half an hour or so is absolutely PAINFUL to watch. The wedding of Charlotte and Carrie’s gay best friends is absolutely ridiculous, ending with Liza Minelli singing Beyonce’s Single Ladies. It was atrocious. The writing was terrible, the acting was shockingly bad, but luckily – it picked up the pace pretty quickly.

We catch up with the ladies to find Carrie bored in her marriage to Big, Charlotte can’t handle her two kids (even with a nanny), Samantha is losing her sex drive thanks to menopause, and Miranda is being disrespected at work.  When Samantha offers them an all-expense paid trip to Abu Dhabi, they all jump at the offer.

They’re whisked away via private jet to a fantasy land one could only dream up. Here Carrie meets up with past love Aiden (played by the incredibly hot John Corbett) and is tempted to cheat. Charlotte comes to realize that every mom needs a break, and Samantha meets some Australian Danish god who revives her sex drive. The movie spends over half it’s time in Abu Dhabi, it’s ridiculous, and unbelievable, but it was pretty to look at!

The movie was not good, but with that said – I still liked it. It’s eye candy for those of us who have watched every single SATC episode, who have followed these four girls since the beginning. I was a bit disappointed with how poorly it was written/acted, but you don’t go see this type of movie for Oscar-worthy performances. You go see this movie to escape the everyday ho-hum. This movie is definitely a good escape, and I’d recommend it to SATC fans. If you’re not a fan of SATC, and you haven’t watched every single episode, you might not like it at all.

The movie isn’t doing so well in the box office either. It was trampled by a green ogre over the weekend!

Not only did ‘Sex and the City 2′ fall far short of box office predictions — Carrie Bradshaw and the gals got trumped by ‘Shrek Forever After,’ a week-old film and the fourth in its franchise.

Predictions for ‘Sex and the City 2′ over the long weekend ran as high as $75 million; however, the film grossed just $37.1 million. The sequel earned less in five days than the 2008 original earned in its first three days.

“It’s possible,” Moviefone’s Gary Susman writes, “that the film was hurt by poor reviews, its R-rating and its 2 1/2-hour running time (allowing for fewer screenings per day) or its inability to attract male moviegoers (polling found the ‘Sex 2′ audience to be 90 percent female), but none of these proved obstacles for the first movie. Maybe it’s just that real-life women the ages of Carrie or Samantha were busy taking their kids to see ‘Shrek.’” Continue Reading

If you’ve seen it, I’d love to hear what you have to say about the movie! Let’s discuss!

Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart together in Sydney to promote Eclipse

Twilight’s Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner make the rounds in Sydney, Australia where they enjoyed a boat ride in Sydney Australia before attending a premiere for Twilight Eclipse on May 31, 2010.

I can’t wait to see the movie! Eclipse was my favorite book out of the four, so I’m hoping they don’t butcher it!

What caused Gary Coleman’s fatal fall?

Gary Coleman suffered the fall that later killed him after undergoing an intense 4-hour dialysis session, his close friend tells the new issue of Us Weekly.

Pal Jeremy Spence says Coleman, 42, drove himself to the hospital Wednesday morning to undergo his usual thrice-weekly dialysis to treat his congenital kidney disease. (The disease caused him to grow to just 4-foot-8, and receive two kidney transplants as a child.)

After returning to the Santaquin, Utah home he shares with his wife, Shannon Price, 24, around 3 p.m., Colemen slipped and hit his head, causing a one-inch gash. Price called an ambulance shortly after, Spence says.

“Dialysis had taken a lot out of him that day,” Spence told Us. “He just wanted to go home, but he was pretty weak. He had no strength at all.”

Coleman’s fall caused intracranial bleeding, and he slipped into a coma and was put on life support Thursday. He died at 12:05 p.m. Friday at a Provo, Utah hospital, surrounded by his wife and other family members.

“Thousands of emails have poured in to the hospital. This has been so comforting to the family to know how beloved he still is,” his wife wrote in a letter read by her brother, Shawn, at a press conference Friday afternoon.

The lovely Gwen Stefani on the cover of InStyle UK!

Gwen Stefani opens up to InStyle UK in it’s upcoming issue, which will hit shelves on June 3rd.

Gwen Stefani on being a Musician

Do you enjoy performing in front of thousands of people?

“I love it. It is so awesome. I love getting ready and getting in costume, then performing and being physical. If you don’t play live concerts, nothing feels real. It’s just a song on the radio that you hear when you’re driving and it doesn’t affect you. But when you walk out on stage and there are people who actually spent their money to buy a ticket and they’re singing the songs, it’s suddenly mind-blowing.”

You’ve said you had writer’s block when trying to work on the next No Doubt record. Have you overcome it?

“I just wrote a song, which is really exciting! It’s not even done and I’ve listened to it two billion times already. It’s like I can’t stop. If my husband comes in and I’m listening to it, I’m like, ‘I’m sorry’.”

Gwen Stefani on Gavin and Kids

When I interviewed Gavin years ago, he said he prides himself on being an excellent gift giver. Do you ever drop any hints about what you want?

“Oh, no, we’re not allowed to do that. It’s just old-fashioned gift giving. He goes all out, you know? He’s a romantic, so it’s good. He is a creative guy and he’s amazingly inspiring with that creativity. We had a really good Christmas last year; it was fun getting gifts for the kids.”

Are you and Gavin going to try for a little girl? Someone should get to inherit your wardrobe…

“I don’t know. Having children is the hardest thing I’ve ever done. No one could have prepared me for how awesome it is and how hard. And having two boys – there’s a lot of energy. I mean, it does seem weird that I don’t have a girl, but I feel like I’m running out of time. I also don’t want to spread myself so thin that I can’t even be good for them. “Poor Zuma, he’d be the middle guy. I’m not focusing on it right now, but it’s not up to me anyway, you know? These things are miracles, so we’ll see. Otherwise, the clothes are probably going to go to some girlfriend of Kingston’s!”
