How Jay-Z became the King of America

He’s had more Number One albums than Elvis Presley. He hangs with Barack Obama at the White House. And he’s riding high after leaving his longtime label Def Jam to work a $150 million deal with Live Nation, delivering some of his best live performances ever. At the age of 40, Jay-Z qualifies as an elder statesman of hip-hop, a fact that’s more remarkable considering other rap peers have hung up the mike to pursue careers in Hollywood. So how does he run the game?

In the latest issue, Rolling Stone goes one-on-one with the New York legend, watching Jay-Z try on a new suit in his sprawling Manhattan office and tagging along to the Four Seasons, where the rapper goofs by mispronouncing actor Kelsey Grammer’s name at a watch auction (after calling the Frasier star “Chelsea,” he asks Rolling Stone how to spell “faux pas”). It seems the man who made his name rhyming about hustling and hos in Brooklyn’s Marcy Projects is actually more comfortable around an unlikely new crowd: indie rockers. “I love the energy coming out indie rock right now,” he says, name-checking Grizzly Bear. “It has this rebellion thing that hip-hop is missing now, the thing that made hip-hop hip-hop.”

While Jay is notoriously private about his life with wife Beyoncé, Rolling Stone gets the rapper to let down his guard, and Jay reveals his superstar better half vetoed a piece of artwork he’d bought for their 8,000-square-foot Tribeca penthouse. The black-and-white Laurie Simmons photograph in question depicted “a noirishly lit pistol with a pair of women’s legs emerging from the handle… Beyoncé sent it back and had it replaced with a similar Simmons piece, only depicting a perfume bottle instead of a gun.” Rolling Stone also encourages Jay to open up about his biggest challenges as president of Def Jam (the most frustrating meeting? “Honestly? All of them”) and his one and only experience in therapy, when as Rolling Stone writes, “The psychiatrist gave him tea that made him sleepy and asked him questions like, ‘Who are your best friends?’ ”

Find out why Jay isn’t trying to lure pal LeBron James to the Nets and why he thinks many rappers have failed to age gracefully in the new issue of Rolling Stone on newsstands nationwide Friday.

Will fans embrace a racy Jennifer Aniston role?

Jennifer Aniston fans are in for a shock! Life & Style has exclusively obtained the script for her new movie, Horrible Bosses, and there’s nothing PG about it!

Jen’s character, Julia, is a totally inappropriate orthodontist who always has sex on the brain. She breaks a nail during an intimate act while watching Dan (played by Penn Badgley) on Gossip Girl, compliments a guy on his privates and even admits she’s into kinky sex!

Jen’s jaw-dropping new movie also stars Colin Farrell , Jamie Foxx and Jason Bateman, who stars with Jen in the upcoming flick The Switch. “Horrible Bosses is a total departure from the romantic comedies she’s been doing,” an insider tells Life & Style. “You won’t believe your eyes.”

How Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt blew their millions!

After announcing a separation, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt may not have each other anymore — and to make matters worse, they may not have any money, either! “They are completely broke,” an insider tells In Touch, noting that their dwindling popularity is to blame.

“Their income has dropped — but their spending habits have not,” explains the insider.

And they buy things for no reason whatsoever. “Heidi has never met a designer bag that she didn’t have to have,” says a source. “And Spencer spends all of his money on gadgets, including professional night vision equipment and telescopes.”

Because of their irresponsible spending habits, Spencer, who made about $65,000 per episode on The Hills, and Heidi, who raked in a cool $100,000 per episode, are now reportedly living on credit until they find new ways to make money. So how did Heidi and Spencer squander a fortune?

$2 Million On Heidi’s Music

“Within the first week, we will definitely make our money back,” said Heidi. Sadly, they didn’t.

$30,000 To Her Family

Heidi’s pal Paul “Cougar” Zank says she helped her mom pay her mortgage so she didn’t lose her house.

$500,000 On Crystals

Spencer admits his obsession with crystals left him with $203 in his bank account.

$500,000 On Cars

Over the years, Spencer and Heidi have bought a Porsche, a Rolls-Royce and a vintage Camaro.

$400,000 On Protection

Aside from the guns he bought, Spencer hired ex- Marines to be bodyguards for the couple.

What I want to know is how much money Heidi spent on that new robot body of hers. All that work could not have come cheap!!

How Kendra Wilkinson got her pre-baby body back!

Six months after giving birth to her son, Hank Jr., Kendra Wilkinson was so desperate to get back her Playboy Playmate body that she considered everything from plastic surgery to a sauna suit. “I’m so used to being hot and fit,” she tweeted back in April, “This body is a culture shock.” Kendra was so miserable that she covered up her body even at the beach — and some feared she might resort to unhealthy measures to take off the weight. But as it turned out, thanks to a sensible diet and a workout program provided by her trainer, Nicky Hollander, the 5’4″ reality star was able to lose 30 pounds of baby fat in just three months — while giving up none of her favorite foods. “I devised a way that she could eat all of the foods she wanted,” Hollander tells In Touch.

Thanks to this simple diet plan, Kendra, 25, was able to eat all of her favorite foods — even husband Hank Baskett’s special barbecued ribs. “We’d just take one third of the ribs off the plate and give it to Hank, or put them in the freezer for later,” Hollander shares. Combined with a specially designed workout regimen the diet enabled the once-frustrated new mom to slim down to a svelte 117 pounds. To come up with Kendra’s workout, Hollander asked her which of those spots she wanted to focus on the most. “She really wanted to get her flat stomach and abs back,” the trainer recalls. “She also told me that she didn’t like ‘back fat.’” And even though she once jokingly complained that Hank couldn’t keep his hands off of her rounder rear end, Kendra also told Hollander that a firmer butt was a top priority. Hollander then devised a program that combined lots of squats and crunches for the abs, pulling and rowing exercises for the back, and “lunges, squats and different things to tackle the booty and firm it up.”

Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow no longer friends because of Gwyneth’s jealousy?

A source close to Madonna, 51, and Gwyneth Paltrow, 37, tells Us Weekly the best friends since 1999 are OVER.

“They don’t speak,” says the insider. “I can’t tell you exactly why they had the falling out, but Gwyneth can be jealous and competitive.”

Although Madonna’s rep denies any of this, US Weekly’s source says that things went sour after Madonna split from husband Guy Ritchie in 2008. Gwyneth felt the two had “less in common” once Madonna was single. Gwyneth has been happily married to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin since 2003.

In fact, Paltrow (who once called the singer “like an older sister”) hinted at a new feud in May’s British Vogue: “I’m having a situation right now with a friend where I’m feeling pretty angry.”

Courteney Cox is jealous of the Sex and the City cast

Courteney Cox opened up to LA Times about being jealous of the girls from Sex and the City, and the two movies that came after the series ended.

“I wish we could do that with ‘Friends,’” Cox says. “The thing is, the characters from ‘Sex and the City’ hopped all over Manhattan. On ‘Friends,’ we were always stuck in the apartment and that coffeehouse.”

Courteney Cox
and best friend Jennifer Aniston have been talking about making a Friends movie for years. Although she’s not getting her hopes up, she’s been dying to get the cast back together for a movie following the much-loved sitcom.

“I don’t think it’s going to happen,” she says. “Would [series creators David Crane and Marta Kauffman] want to write it? Because they’d have to be involved. I don’t know … a lot of things would have to break just right for it to work. But we’ve daydreamed about it.”

While LA Times was talking with Courteney, they got a few of her favorite moments from the long-running sitcom.

Favorite scene: “Off the top of my head, I’d say when Monica proposed to Chandler. There’s like 10,000 candles lit in the apartment and she gets down on one knee and starts sobbing. ‘There’s a reason why girls don’t do this!’ That was a big scene to me, playing the heavy emotion of that.”

Favorite part of Monica: “I loved any time she got super-competitive. The New Year’s Rockin’ Eve dance. The Thanksgiving touch football game with Ross. Fat Monica too. God, playing Fat Monica was so freeing! I remember being in [Fat Monica] makeup one time waiting for the other cast members to come out, and [director] Kevin Bright put on ‘Shake Your Groove Thing’ and I just grabbed a doughnut and started dancing like crazy in front of the audience. I could do anything because I was hidden under all that prosthetic makeup.”

I don’t know how I would feel about a Friends movie. I loved the series, and it was actually one of a few series that ended really well. Do we need to mess that up with a movie that may not do the series justice? What do you think?
