Eva Mendes stars in her first comedic role this summer playing a “Knicks dancer-turned-doctor married to a dunderhead of a forensics cop (Ferrell) who doesn’t realize what a babe his wife is,” W magazine writes in their new cover story.
36-year-old Eva’s comedy role is in Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg’s ‘The Other Guys’.
On nudity — something she’s embraced in ‘We Own the Night,’ ‘Training Day,’ and countless photo shoots: “I’ve never had a problem with nudity, but I don’t put it out there without a reason. I’m not an exhibitionist. But, honestly, for my art I’ll do anything almost. I’ll go there.”
Does the sexuality worry her? “I know I walk a fine line between being a respected actor and being what they call a sex symbol. It’s a hard one to walk if you want to be known as a real, credible actor. But I’ve never felt objectified. Nothing you see me do is an accident. I might act like it’s an accident, but the opposite is true. I’m incredibly calculated when it comes to my career.”
On her ethnicity: “I don’t consider myself a Latin American actress. I was born and raised here, and I have Cuban parents, but for me, I am the new American girl. It’s not only Drew Barrymore and the blond Mid-western girl. This, [pointing to her face] is also what we look like now.”
She loved her chance to make ‘em laugh in ‘The Other Guys’: “It’s very hard for me to be seen as funny, and the truth is, that’s where I’m most comfortable. [This role] was completely liberating. Never have I had so much fun with a character and felt so natural at it. Had I done this movie three years ago, I wouldn’t have had the confidence to throw it back at Will, and now, if anything, I was overly confident. I didn’t know when to stop!”
The two comments she gets: “‘You seem a lot taller on film,’ and ‘You’re funny.’ If people hang out with me, they see I’m a ham.”

Keeping alive the spirit of America’s theatrical past, the Tonys showered awards, including those for best revivals, on the new productions of August Wilson’s 1987 Tony-winning best drama Fences – now starring this year’s Tony-winning best actor Denzel Washington and best actress Viola Davis – and the intimate, revisionist production of 1983′s best musical Tony winner La Cage aux Folles. The new La Cage also took Tonys for its outstanding leading man Douglas Hodge and director Terry Johnson.
“I’m amazed,” said Washington, 55. “I’m really surprised … and blessed.”
In her Broadway debut, Catherine Zeta-Jones, 40, an Oscar winner for the movie Chicago, was named best actress in the musical revival of Stephen Sondheim’s 1973 A Little Night Music. “I really do feel like Cinderella,” she said, thanking her parents and her husband, Michael Douglas – whom she called “a movie star, and I get to sleep with him every night.”
The three-hour ceremony’s first-time host, Will & Grace Emmy winner Sean Hayes, now starring in a revival of the 1968 best musical Promises, Promises, opened the show on the piano, before being joined by the casts of the season’s musicals. Capping the showstopper was the band Green Day, playing from the show based on their songs, American Idiot.
“Welcome to the Tony Awards,” Hayes announced, “the World Cup of show tunes.”

Scarlett Johansson won best featured performance as an actress, for Arthur Miller’s A View From the Bridge at the Tony’s last night.
Husband Ryan Reynolds was on hand to support her, but when it was announced that Scarlett had won, she hopped up and walked toward the stage without acknowledging her hot hubby! When she realized what she had done, she ran back and gave the 33 year old a quick kiss.
Johansson was more enthusiastic about nabbing the award.
“Ever since I was a little girl I wanted to be on Broadway and here I am,” she said on stage. (She also made it up to her husband, calling him “my Canadian.”)

Bachelor Jake Pavelka will play a single guy on Drop Dead Diva, Lifetime has announced.
Pavelka, 32, will guest star as Toby Davlin, a suitor on a dating show-within-a-show called Finding the One. He begins taping scenes on June 18, and his episode, “Good Grief,” airs Aug. 22.
In the show, he’ll dump one bachelorette for another, leading the producer to be sued “for intentionally conflicting emotional harm.” Says Pavelka, who is engaged to Vienna Girardi in real life, “I am honored to be a part of Drop Dead Diva this season, and cannot wait to meet the cast and crew.”
It’s not his first acting role. Pavelka — who previously used the stage name Jake Landrum — once starred on Walker, Texas Ranger as a young version of Chuck Norris’ character, Cordell Walker.
Paula Abdul and Chad Lowe have also appeared on the Lifetime show, which airs Sundays at 9 p.m.
