She has been working with the organization in an effort to help raise $2.5 million dollars toward domestic violence prevention a topic that hits too close to home for her.

“I saw my mother battered, and could not do anything to stop it,” she told The Times. “My father was tyrannical, lashing out at her for no reason. I felt the effects that had on our family — I’ve experienced what these women have gone through.”

Halle, who lost hearing in one of her ears after an alleged beating from a romantic partner of her own, said she’s managed to break the cycle of abuse.

“I did choose the wrong partners,” she told the newspaper. “Not always good men. Luckily, in recent years, I have been smart enough to hit the door when violence even becomes a possibility. That is something I will not tolerate.”

Halle also revealed that her mother, Judith, still struggles with why she took the abuse from her husband for so long.

“That is a deep question, and I am not sure she will ever come up with one answer. I have one answer to anyone in a similar situation — get out,” Halle said.

Lindsay Lohan was court ordered to twinkle in a cup a few hours after her SCRAM bracelet when off the night of the MTV movie awards.

According to sources her test came back negative for alcohol.

“They did a urinalysis through Medtox labs and it was indicated conclusively that there was no alcohol in her system at that time,” says a source with knowledge of the test results.

Lohan’s attorney Shawn Chapman Holley also verified the test results as accurate.

That didn’t stop a judge from doubling the actress’ bail to $200,000! I’ve heard of “real” criminals getting out of jail for much less bail.

Lohan may have some problems, but why does she get a $200,000 bail and people who really hurt others like children or women get out for less than $30,000?

Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen are “taking a break,” a source tells UsMagazine.com.

The two announced their engagement in February 2009.

Bilson, 28, flashed a ringless finger to Us on the red carpet of the Take No Prisoners event in L.A. Wednesday night. When asked how wedding plans were going, she said, “No, no plans” and pointed to her bare hand. “No nothing.”

The source says the couple — who co-starred in 2008 action flick Jumper — are “taking about a month off” and will then revisit their relationship to decide if they should stay together. The break began about two weeks ago, the source adds.
