Dave Grohl Eyes Actress to Play Him in Kurt Cobain Biopic

The proposed Kurt Cobain biopic will undoubtedly proceed without his blessing, but Dave Grohl, former Nirvana band mate and Foo Fighters frontman, is taking a stand when it comes to who should portray him.

“I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m crossing my fingers that Shelley Duvall plays me,” the musician deadpans to People. And though it may seem to be an odd choice for casting directors, Grohl explains why the actress made famous by being chased around by an ax-weilding Jack Nicholson is the right “man” for the job.

“Shelley Duvall in The Shining …” he says, laughing. “That is MY face, you cannot get any closer than that.”

It takes a confident man, or at least a guy a with a sense of humor to insist that he be portrayed by the very same actress who played Olive Oil opposite Robin Williams in 1980′s Popeye, but as far as Grohl sees it, his reasoning is sound. “I am probably the least manly dude that you have ever met in your life,” the rocker says during the Milk+Bookies Story Time Celebration in Los Angeles, “So why not have Shelley Duvall play me?”

Furthermore, as Grohl is quick to point out, it wouldn’t be the first time a female actress stepped in to play the role of rock icon. “Put a beard on her, ” he says. “Cate Blanchett did it in the Dylan movie!”

Confirmed: Kate Gosselin to do Dancing With The Stars

Kate Gosselin will show off her skills on the dance floor.

The mom of eight will compete on Dancing With the Stars, UsMagazine.com has confirmed.

Gosselin, 34, has been practicing her moves “under a shroud of security” at the Beverly Wilshire hotel, according to Los Angeles radio station K-Earth 101.

Gosselin once told Jay Leno she’d love to appear on the ABC show, which premieres March 22.

“I want to laugh at myself,” she joked. “I so cannot dance.”

The celeb contestants will be announced Monday night during The Bachelor finale.

Pro dancer Lacey Schwimmer confirmed last week she won’t be returning. It’s been rumored Karina Smirnoff is also off the show, which she denied on Twitter.

In January, Samantha Harris announced she was leaving as co-host.

Michael Douglas Sees Family Dynamic in Son’s Troubles

With Cameron Douglas facing 10 years of jail time at his April 27 sentencing on a drug conviction, his father, Michael Douglas, is taking stock of his role in Cameron’s upbringing – and sees parallels to his relationship with his own father, Kirk.

“My priorities were very similar [to my father's]. Career first,” Douglas tells Vanity Fair’s April issue in describing Cameron’s early years.

When Douglas and his first wife, Diandra Luker, split in the 1990s, it left Cameron with a largely absent celebrity father – much the same situation that Michael endured when his parents divorced in the 1950s.

“The history of second-generation actors isn’t great in our industry. It’s kind of a tragic road, actually,” says Douglas, who went to rehab for alcohol problems in the early 1990s. It’s a pattern that has continued with the third generation, as Cameron himself was once an aspiring actor.

Cameron, 31, pleaded guilty in January to distributing a large quantity of crystal meth. Michael, 65, has repeatedly put a brave face on how he’s been dealing with his son’s drug and legal problems.

“Anybody who has a relative or child in substance abuse has some idea of what this feels like. This is one of those worst-case scenarios,” says the actor who stars in the upcoming Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. “It will ultimately be a painful lesson and very expensive as far as time is concerned. I don’t wish it on anybody, but then, you know, look, everybody’s got difficult things in life.”

One positive note is that Michael, like his father Kirk, has been driven to change his ways – in Michael’s case, by being a better father to his two young children with Catherine Zeta-Jones: Dylan, 9, and Carys, 6.

Zeta-Jones says her husband has been devoted to the youngsters from the beginning. “I’m sure if he could breast-feed, he would have,” she says.

Jennie Garth to Pen Children’s Books

Another children’s book author is coming out of Beverly Hills, 90210!

A week after Tori Spelling announced she was writing her first children’s book, Jennie Garth tells UsMagazine.com that she has signed on to pen some kids’ books as well.

“I just signed a two-book deal to start my own children’s books,” the 37-year-old star told Us at a Milk + Bookies event in L.A. Sunday. “So I’m really excited about that!”

The books, which will be targeted to kids ages 3 to 8, won’t hit bookshelves until February 2011, the mother of three girls — Luca, 12, Lola, 7, and Fiona, 3 — says. Garth says she “can’t really say yet” what the books will be about “because we are still negotiating.”

Garth, who has been married to actor Peter Facinelli since 2001, tells Us that being a mom was all the experience she needed to take on the new gig.

Take a look at star parents who’ve shared their personal family photos with Us

“We are really great parents, if I do say so myself!” she jokes. “We really take it as a full-time commitment and job… We take it very seriously.”

Marie Osmond in ‘Disbelief’ Over Son’s Suicide

Although Marie Osmond knew her son had problems, she had visited him often in Los Angeles, where he attended school at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, and thought he was doing better, a friend tells People.

“When she heard about the tragedy, she was a mess. She was in disbelief,” says the friend.

Michael, 18, took his own life on Friday night in Los Angeles. The Osmond family has gathered in Las Vegas, where Donny and Marie’s show is on hold indefinitely, to mourn together.

“They’re doing the best they can,” the friend says. “They’re all together. She’s taking care of her family. They’re all trying to explain that certain [bad] things happen while they grieve at the same time. They’re trying to understand and make sense of it.”

Jessica Simpson: Why It’s Wrong to “Change” Someone You Love

Jessica Simpson has learned something from her past relationships with the likes of John Mayer, Nick Lachey, Tony Romo and (briefly) Billy Corgan.

“You can’t love someone else to change them,” the now-unattached Simpson Tweeted Sunday. “Happiness comes from accepting who they are,” she continued. “It is our decision to REALLY know who we love.”

The 29 year-old star’s most talked-about former love is arguably Mayer, 32, who got in hot water last month for a blue-streaked interview with Playboy. In the infamous Q&A, he compared Simpson (whom he dumped in May of 2007 after a year together) to crack cocaine and said she was “crazy” in bed.

Did Mayer try to “change” Simpson? During their time together, the natural blonde went brunette, and “[Mayer] brought her to new places sexually, and they were dark places,” an insider told Us. “She liked being a bad girl and being manhandled, but now she feels it was a mistake because of what he said in the interview.”

Another Simpson source adds that the star is “disgusted” by Mayer’s remarks. “He actually texted apologizing, like, 12 times, but she ignored it.”

Simpson will appear on The Oprah Winfrey Show this Wednesday to promote The Price of Beauty, her new VH1 reality series which debuts March 15.
