Drea de Matteo to Exit ‘Housewives’‏

Drea de Matteo is leaving Desperate Housewives in May, but series creator Marc Cherry tells Entertainment Weekly that the tabloid talk that the Emmy-winning vet was fired because she wasn’t clicking with the cast is not true. “When I heard that stuff, I was stunned,” confesses Cherry. “We adore her. She is the sweetest gal in the world.”

The reality is that de Matteo’s stint on the show was never intended to go beyond this season, according to Cherry. “Part of the deal when we hired Drea was she was only interested in doing one season,” he explains. “She has a baby and is eager to get back to her life in New York.”

Cherry declined to reveal how her character will exit Wisteria Lane, but he teases that the arrival in April of Torchwood’s John Barrowman as the man she has been on the run from will build to “an explosive finale,” during which “all the mysterious parts of her past will be revealed.”

Rachel McAdams to join Woody Allen film

Rachel McAdams is in negotiations to star opposite Owen Wilson and Marion Cotillard in Woody Allen’s untitled movie scheduled to shoot in the summer.

As with most Allen movies, plot details are being kept under wraps, though the setting for the ensemble is France. Spain’s Mediapro is financing and plans to sell the movie in Cannes.

McAdams’ boarding comes on the heels of Allen’s latest movie, the London-set “You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger,” being acquired by Sony Pictures Classics. “Stranger” also was financed by Mediapro.

McAdams is coming off the success of “Sherlock Holmes” and has on her docket Terrence Malick’s untitled movie project, in which she will co-star with Christian Bale, Javier Bardem and Olga Kurylenko. The movie shoots this year.

The actress, repped by UTA and Magnolia Entertainment, next appears with Harrison Ford in the J.J. Abrams-produced “Morning Glory,” which Paramount releases Oct. 28.

MTV Star in Coma After Car Crash

The stars of MTV’s “A Double Shot at Love” were involved in a major car crash yesterday that left one girl in a medically induced coma.

We’re told Erica “Rikki” Mongeon and Victoria “Vikki” Mongeon were passengers in a VW Jetta traveling through Bakersfield, CA at around 12:20 AM Tuesday when their car collided with a semi-truck.

We’re told Vikki and the Jetta driver were not seriously injured — but Rikki was rushed to the intensive care unit at a local hospital.

According to girls’ manager, Rikki is now in a medically induced coma — but we’re told doctors are optimistic about Rikki’s recovery.

“The Bachelor” couple Jake Pavelka and Vienna Girardi seen leaving ABC studios together, showing a lot of PDA!

Taunting Ali Was Part of Vienna’s Winning Strategy, according to the latest issue of US Weekly.

Bachelor winner Vienna Girardi, 23, complained on the March 1 finale that her fellow contestants – particularly Ali Fedotowsky, 25 – hated her, but perhaps the animosity was deserved.

“You don’t see the things Vienna said to me. They were very hurtful,” Fedotowsky, ABC’s new Bachelorette, said on After The Final Rose March 1. Indeed, in the new issue of Us Weekly, one of the season’s contestants, says that the fan fave took Girardi’s insults personally.

“Vienna would always thank us for coming to her ‘bachelorette’ or ‘engagement party,’ then tell us we were all going home,” the contestant tells Us. “Ali would just call her out on it.”

The fiercely competitive Girardi (“she always had to one-up people,” another show castoff recounts) quickly recognized Fedotowsky as her main obstacle to winning the heart of pilot Jake Pavelka, 32.

“Vienna would say to Ali that she was going to shake her boobs in Jake’s face,” explains another show insider.

“I think Jake hasn’t ever been with a girl like Vienna and is experiencing a ‘wild side,’” a source observes. “Once she figured that out, maybe she was a little more seductive.”

To read more about Vienna’s calculated strategy to win — including how she would “grab Jake’s butt,” how Tenley’s holding up since Pavelka dumped her, and the surprising details about the Bachelor’s shocking contract for its contestants, pick up the new issue of Us Weekly — on newsstands today!

Watch Jessica Simpson talk about John Mayer on Oprah!

Many have commented on the Playboy interview in which John Mayer compared ex-girlfriend Jessica Simpson to “sexual napalm” — including the rocker himself, repeatedly. Finally Simpson herself is ready to weigh in on the controversy, telling Oprah Winfrey, “It was so discouraging, because that’s not the John I knew.”

In her ‘Oprah’ segment Wednesday, Simpson admits that she felt betrayed by her ex and says she has yet to accept Mayer’s apology. “I don’t resent him,” she explains, “but I’m just going to let that part of my life go.”
