Summit looking at Academy Award-nominated directors for ‘Breaking Dawn’

Yes, it’s still early days, but Summit is trying to up its pedigree for its big-screen adaptation of the final installment of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series. Sources tell EW that the studio has reached out to at least three top-notch directors, including Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation), Gus Van Sant (Milk), and Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) to gauge their interest in what is likely to be two movies. (Van Sant’s reps confirmed that he’s been approached, but Coppola and Condon’s people didn’t return phone calls by press time. Summit declined to comment.)

No decisions are likely to be made until the studio delivers screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg’s detailed outline to the directors. That should happen sometime next week. Until then we can just wonder how these three very diverse directors will approach Bella’s (SPOILER: highlight to read) controversial birthing scene.

Paul Schneider is leaving Park’s and Recreation

Paul Schneider, who plays city planner Mark Brendanawicz on Parks and Recreation, will be leaving the show, co-creator and executive producer Mike Schur tells the LA Times. Schneider, the show’s ever-patient straight man and boyfriend to Rashida Jones’ Ann Perkins, will depart this season, but may return in the future.

“In the wake of Bright Star and winning a lot of awards,” says Schur, “Paul now has this film career that is just taking off in a big way. And the movie opportunities he’s getting are incredibly cool, interesting movies, not the summer blockbuster movies that can be scheduled around TV actors when they need to be… But the goal and the aim is to have him come back as soon as his schedule permits and as soon as the arcs we’re writing call for it.”

“He’s not going to be killed in some weird accident,” Schur promises.

As previously reported, Adam Scott and Rob Lowe are poised to join the P&R cast.

The Perfect Action Star, Sam Worthington‏

I have Robert Pattinson sized crush on Sam Worthington, not gonna lie. I had no clue who this guy was until I saw Avatar, and since then – I’ve found myself obsessing over this hot little Aussie. Sam Worthington is HOT and he’s a manly man. Mmmm.

James Cameron turned this 33-year-old Aussie into the star of the biggest film in history, but just who is the man beneath the blue skin? Fans of Sam Worthington will soon find out with the April release of the blockbuster Clash of the Titan, but in the meantime check out the hottie in this month’s DETAILS Magazine where he talks about swearing more than he should, taking roles because the co-stars were hot and why James Cameron thinks he’s the perfect action star.

“He’s the opposite of narcissistic,” says James Cameron. “He doesn’t play the Hollywood game, He’s not there to make friends.”

“I’m not a great fan of people who say they put a sheet up in the backyard when they were 7 and entertained all the neighbors.” Says Sam Worthington. “When I was 7, I thought I was a fucking fire truck.”

“It’s hard to find an actor who works for women and for men,” Cameron says.

New Michael Jackson album in November

TMZ has confirmed the Michael Jackson estate has signed the biggest deal ever in music — worth up to $250 million with a guarantee of $200 million.

The estate made the deal with Sony Music Entertainment. According to the Associated Press, the contract is for 10 projects over seven years.

One album will debut in November, which contains never-before released recordings. We’re told Jackson left enough material for at least three albums of fresh material.

A source tells TMZ the royalty rate on foreign sales is the key to the deal — and 2/3 of the sales of MJ records traditionally have been outside the U.S.

And we’re told Sony gets a two-year extension for the right to distribute the Michael Jackson catalog — to 2017.

The deal was brokered by John Branca and John McClain, executors of the MJ estate.

Charlie Sheen Returning to Sitcom after Not Guilty Plea

It’s back to work for Charlie Sheen.

The Two and a Half Men star will return to the set this week – but still spend nights in rehab – following his not-guilty plea Monday on domestic violence charges.

“Charlie is looking forward to going back to work for the final four episodes of Two and Half Men,” says the show’s executive producer, Mark Burg. “He’s also looking forward to clearing his name, putting all of this behind him and spending time with his kids during his hiatus.”

The actor, 44, wore a black suit and tie for his court hearing in Aspen, Colo., where his attorney entered the pleas for felony menacing and two misdemeanors for assault and criminal mischief. Sheen waved to photographers when he arrived at the courthouse, appeared reserved in court and did not speak.

Sheen took a leave from the hit show Feb. 23 to enter the rehabilitation facility for what his rep called a “preventative measure.” His wife, Brooke Mueller, who didn’t attend Monday’s hearing, is undergoing rehab separately at the couple’s L.A. home and is caring for their year-old twins.

The charges related to a Christmas Day fight with Mueller at a rental house in the ski resort. She alleged he grabbed her throat and held a knife to it while pinning her down, saying he’d kill her if she told anyone, according to police. The fight had escalated after Mueller, 32, threatened to divorce the actor, she told police.

Sheen denied to police that he threatened Mueller or tried to strangle her. He stated the couple had been having marital problems and that his wife abuses alcohol.

A three-day trial is set beginning on July 21, but the case could end with a plea deal. Experts say most cases like Sheen’s end without significant jail time, given that Mueller did not suffer serious physical injury and the actor’s lack of multiple convictions.

His next hearing date is April 19, but he’s not required to show in person.
