Gwen Stefani’s “Backup Plan”: Her Booming Design Career

So how does Gwen Stefani balance her ultra-successful rock star career with her design lines? Well, turns out, it’s all part of her plan for life after music.

The InStyle cover girl explains, “I wanted so badly to have a backup plan for when I’m not performing anymore. Let’s be realistic: It’s not going to be like this forever. So I wanted to continue having something creative to do.” And its something she’s done her entire life, saying “I made so many clothes growing up, and I used to do my own costumes…all I would do was just daydream about what I was going to make.”

While Gwen certainly rocks some hot looks on stage, it’s her off-duty wardrobe that’s made her a style icon to millions around the world. So what will happen to her stock of Galliano and Westwood when she’s no longer wearing them? Hint: If she doesn’t have a daughter, it’ll pay off big to be one of her sons’ girlfriends later in life. “I don’t know. I’m not focusing on it right now, but it’s not up to me anyway, you know? These things are miracles, so we’ll see,” she says. “Otherwise, the clothes are probably going to go to some girlfriend of Kingston’s!”

Betty White Heading Back to Sitcom World

Betty White, still riding her wave of white-hot popularity, is joining the cast of the upcoming TV Land comedy Hot in Cleveland, her first starring role in a sitcom since Ladies Man went off the air in 2001.

Still best known for her seven seasons on The Golden Girls, White, 88, will play Elka Ostrovsky, the property caretaker of the home that Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves and Wendie Malick rent after their plane makes an emergency landing in Cleveland and they decide to stay.

White, 88, has guest-starred on dozens of shows over the years. Her two regular TV roles in the past decade were on the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful and the prime-time drama Boston Legal. She’s been feeling a whole lot of love from audiences since her Snickers ad ran during the Super Bowl, and is set to host Saturday Night Live on May 8 after fans lobbied on Facebook for her to get the gig. She’s also guest starring on ABC’s The Middle.

TV Land President Larry W. Jones said viewers can expect to see White’s “amazing sense of timing and fantastic comedy genius” in her role as Elka on the network’s very first foray into scripted entertainment.

Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes: What Went Wrong?

As news broke of Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes’ amicable split Monday, the couple was thousands of miles apart.

The distance underscored what the pair said Monday through their lawyers – “that they separated earlier this year.” The Oscar-winning actress was with friends and her children in Mexico (where the U.K newspaper The Sun pictured her recreating the arms-out Titanic pose on an inflatable dinghy). Mendes, 44, was reportedly with friends in New England.

They were seen in public together at the Wimbledon tennis tournament in the summer of 2009. Then last week, he was back in England visiting the National Theatre where he was in the audience of London Assurance, a source confirms.

Winslet was noticeably solo at this year’s series of award ceremonies, including the BAFTAs in London and the Oscars in L.A. Her red carpet appearances were in stark contrast to the previous award season when the couple was ubiquitous on the red carpets and, she, on the winners’ podiums.

In fact, during her 2009 Golden Globe victory best actress for her role in Mendes’s Revolutionary Road, Winslet called him “babe,” and enthusiastically thanked him. She said at the time, “[I] loved every second of working with you and it’s made me love you more.”

Now the British papers are abuzz that it was during the filming of Revolutionary Road that strains in their marriage began. The film happens to be about a couple in a disintegrating marriage.

Perhaps Mendes unwittingly gave a clue to the downside of living and working together when that same January, he told The Daily Telegraph it was “exhilarating” working with his wife, but, “I tend to cut off at the end of the day and watch a baseball game or something. I don’t like to bring work home.

“Kate is the opposite,” he added. “So I just had to change my ways because it’s what she needed and my goal was to get the best performance I possibly could out of her and if she needed to talk about it, then that was my job, too.”

Lady Gaga Nearly Collapses at New Zealand Concert

Are the demands of her mammoth Monster Ball Tour weighing too heavily on Lady Gaga?

A month after postponing two concerts in the U.S. due to exhaustion, the pop star, 23, appeared on the verge of collapse at a show on Saturday in Auckland, New Zealand – with video showing her sitting and even lying down during the last song, “Bad Romance.”

She did finish the performance, and no problems were reported the following night at the same venue.

Gaga, known for elaborate stage shows, is nearing the midpoint of a lengthy world tour that began in North America in November. She is now on a 15-date excursion through New Zealand and Australia, after which she will visit Japan, Europe and North America again, wrapping up the tour in September – more than 100 shows overall in less than 10 months.

A rep for the singer did not immediately return a request for comment.

Jessica Simpson: I Want a Guy Who’s Not “Embarrassed of My Life”

Jessica Simpson’s perfect guy?

“I want a confident man,” she said Monday evening on Barbara Walters’ SIRIUS XM Radio show, Here’s Barbara. “A man who understands me and can deal with my life and is not embarrassed of my life. And can support my life. And allow me to be a powerful woman. And allow me to be powerful in the relationship. I’m not going to give up my role in this life to just be a housewife.”

Despite a slew of failed relationships, Simpson — who recently admitted that Dallas Cowboy quarterback Tony Romo dumped her on her 29th birthday — says she still loves men.

“What is attractive to me about a man is a man’s spirituality,” she says. “Just the way that he carries himself. I kind of like a rough man a little bit. A man’s man.”

Simpson turns 30 this year. What happens if she doesn’t find The One by the time she’s 40?

“I’m going to have Ken’s baby,” she said, referring to her hairstylist-BFF Ken Paves.

Added Paves, “I think we’d actually have a cute baby.”

Kidding aside, Simpson – who split from husband Nick Lachey in 2005 – said: “I hope to fall in love and do it the picture perfect way.”

GQ Blasts Rielle Hunter: “She Knew What She Was Doing” at the Shoot

GQ is blasting Rielle Hunter, who is said to be repulsed by the racy shots of her in the magazine’s April issue.

Hunter — a 45-year-old videographer who had a fling with John Edwards and gave birth to his 2-year-old daughter Frances Quinn — told Barbara Walters that she thought photographer Mark Seliger would’ve used some of the “beautiful headshots” he took of her.

Instead, they used shots of her wearing no pants as she lounged next to stuffed animals.

But GQ isn’t buying it.

“Did she say she thought they would be headshots?” GQ reporter Lisa DePaulo asked incredulously on ABC’s Good Morning America Tuesday.

“Rielle is a smart woman,” DePaulo added. “She knows what she wore and what she was doing in the photo shoot.”

GQ also released a video of the shoot to “GMA” today and at one point the videographer asks Hunter, “You want to take a look at this?”

Angelina Jolie holds onto Shiloh and Zahara in between filming for “The Tourist”.

Man, does Shiloh look like a little boy or what! I’m not judging, I don’t care if she looks like a boy or girl – but it’s pretty shocking – she’d pass for a boy any day!
