Karina Smirnoff on Kate Gosselin: I Totally Understand Her

Karina Smirnoff was recently seen at Yotam Solomon Presents the Native American Collection Fall/Winter 2010 in Hollywood where she confessed to OK! that she hasn’t completely left Dancing With the Stars, so we had to ask — what does she think about Kate Gosselin?

“To be honest, I totally understand what she is doing,” Karina told OK!.

Karina thinks it’s good for the mom of eight to have something else to do.

“She is home and she has a lot of kids to take care of and for her to come and get her hair done and her makeup done and all of that is fun and she can do something other than being a mom, which is great,” Karina shared with OK!.

But, it’s a balance.

“As long as she can combine being a mom with Dancing with the Stars,” she explained, “that’s great.”

Katherine Heigl on Ashton Kutcher: “He is Stupid Hot”

Katherine Heigl is no stranger to starring with hot guys in romantic comedies — James Marsden, Gerard Butler… and now her latest hunky co-star, Ashton Kutcher! The pair is starring in the upcoming film Killers, and Ashton’s good looks certainly slay Katherine.

“He is stupid hot,” the actress told E! Online. “It’s ridiculous. Even his hands are beautiful.”

No only is he hot, but according to Katherine, Ashton knows a thing or two about smooching.

“It’s unbelievable,” Katherine said of kissing Ashton. “Could you imagine if he sucked? I would have slapped him.”

Demi Moore is one lucky lady!

Ashton passed along his movie Spread for Katherine to watch while they were filming. The indie flick shows a bare side of the comedic actor — literally.

He is naked in many sex scenes with Anne Heche and other women in the film.

“I watched it one day during lunch, but when I went back to work, I was like, ‘I don’t know if I could look at you right now,’ ” Katherine said. ” ‘I know you far too intimately, and I’m really uncomfortable… I’ve seen your O-face!’ ”

Betty White on Sandra Bullock: “I Love Her With All My Heart”

Betty White knows best. While she expresses sympathy for her co-star in The Proposal, Sandra Bullock, for the reported marital problems she’s going through with Jesse James, Betty says it’s best to let them work it out themselves.

“I think that’s Sandy’s business; that’s not mine I love her with all my heart. [She's] one of the greatest human beings on the planet,” Betty told Entertainment Tonight of Sandra, who she grew very close to while filming together.

“We’re all deeply, deeply saddened. At such a high point in her life, it’s tough,” Betty said of the allegations made of Jesse’s infidelity. “But I think the less other people have to say about it and let her work it out, it is [for] the better.”

Well said, Betty.

Isla Fisher and Sacha Baron Cohen’s Secret, Six-Guest Wedding

After a six-year engagement, Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher’s long-awaited wedding ceremony turned out to be the most intimate of affairs: Just six guests attended the traditional Jewish ceremony on March 15 in Paris.

And those six had to move quickly. In an effort to keep the celebration quiet, the bride and groom gave their loved ones “very little notice” ahead of the nuptials, according to Australia’s WHO magazine.

In an interview a year ago, Fisher revealed her yearning for a private ceremony. “It’s very important to me to have a beautiful ritual celebrated with my family and friends,” she said. “And when you are in the public eye, to keep that private and to make it happen without it being really visible is really difficult.”

Baron Cohen, 38, and Fisher, 34, have been together for about eight years, have a 2-year-old daughter, Olive. They spent a week at the Hotel Ritz in Paris and were photographed walking around the nearby Place Vendome wearing matching berets.

They are now back in London, where Fisher is filming new movie, Burke and Hare.

Evan’s DWTS Blog: My Pre-Dancing Rituals

Evan Lysacek brought home a gold medal for Team USA last month. Now the 24-year-old men’s figure skating champion is hoping to add a mirror ball trophy to his collection of awards. On Monday night, Lysacek and ten other celebrities competed on the season 10 premiere of Dancing with the Stars. Here’s what Lysacek had to say about his ballroom debut in his first DWTS blog post for People.com:

People have asked me why I wanted to do this show, especially after winning the men’s figure skating gold medal at the Vancouver Olympics. It’s simple: I’m a competitor and I love to challenge myself.

My partner is the beautiful and talented Anna Trebunskaya. She and I started rehearsing the first Monday I got back from Vancouver. That first week I was a little tired from the Olympics. I was also discouraged because I thought there would be some similarity between dancing and skating, but they are such different sports. I got out there and I felt like I wasn’t a natural. We had to work really hard at a few things. First of all, the posture is different in dancing. You’re always standing up and leaning back whereas with skating, you’re always leaning forward over the ball of your foot. I only rotate one way on the ice — if you’re right-handed you rotate to the left and if you’re left-handed you rotate to the right. So, to have to go both ways — and mostly my opposite way — and lead with the opposite foot and the opposite shoulder is difficult. It’s like going in reverse. There were many times Anna would hold my head when we danced because I’d naturally want to turn in the opposite direction.

By the time Monday came around, I felt ready. And just as I have done for skating competitions over the years, I mentally prepared myself for the first performance. You hear of athletes getting into a zone or following game-day rituals. That’s exactly what I did on Monday. Every time I have a competition, I try to stimulate my senses in the same way to tell my body it’s game time. I burn the same candle. I play the same playlist on my iPod. And I only drink chocolate shakes on competition days. (I only drink banana, vanilla or strawberry on other days so I know when I drink chocolate, it’s time to go.) I use the same comb. I use the same hair gel. So it’s like I’m telling my body, “When you hear this, when you smell this, when you taste this, it’s time to go.”

When it was time for us to dance, I wasn’t nervous. Feeding off the energy of the first five couples was great. We were sixth and I was ready to get out there. I’m used to performing in front of a live audience, so that part didn’t scare me. Going face-to-face with the judges after our performance was interesting. You’d think I’d be used to being scored by an international panel. But it was a little nerve-wracking standing in front of Len, Bruno and Carrie Ann. I was glad to get their input on how we need to improve our performance.

Being in the new room with the cast before and after our performance was a lot of fun. It sounds cliché, but we really are becoming a little family. We all rehearse at the same studio in L.A., so we’ve gotten to know each other pretty well during the past several weeks. We were so excited for each other, rooting for each other.

Now that the first dance is done, I’m going to treat myself to a steak dinner and get some rest. Next week’s dance is the jive, which is very fast-paced and requires a lot of concentration and quick footwork. I have to make sure to get as much rehearsal time in as I can because at the end of next week, I will begin touring with Stars On Ice.

I have such a beautiful partner and we’ve been training so hard. Our motto is no one will out-work us. So, we’ve been running repetitions and training and training. To get all dressed up and have it count tonight was great, and I am really looking forward to doing it all over again next week.

Thanks for your support — don’t forget to vote! — and see you back here next week. –Evan Lysacek

Janet Jackson: Tyler Perry Was There for Me After Michael’s Death

Janet Jackson says film director Tyler Perry was a major source of support when her brother Michael died unexpectedly last June – repeatedly checking on her and even halting work on the movie they were making together.

“He actually stopped production and was there for me,” Jackson, 43, told People on Monday at the New York premiere of Perry’s new film, Why Did I Get Married Too? “[He was] constantly calling me, making sure I was OK, making sure that there wasn’t anything that I needed or my family needed.”

He is “such a sweetheart,” she added, “so giving and so loving.”

Perry, 40, asked Jackson if she wanted to take a few weeks off, but in the end she returned to the Bahamas set the day after Michael’s funeral. “Once I spoke to her and found out that she was at a place of strength and going to be with her family, I felt safe enough to know that she was going to be OK,” he told People.

Finishing the film, Perry added, might have been the best thing for Jackson. “I think that a lot of times, people are not able to release,” he said. “They don’t have a way to let go. And that’s the great thing about having a film like this, where she got to do all of these crazy things. And I think all of [her] emotion is in the film, I really do.”

At one point in the movie, Jackson’s character smashes up furniture with a golf club. She told Jay Leno on The Tonight Show last week that it wasn’t too difficult to channel those kinds of powerful emotions.

“You have to dig deep,” she said. “But there was some stuff that was right there for me – stuff that had just happened, with my brother passing, and also relationships.”

DWTS Judge to Kate Gosselin: You’re “Terrible”

Well, Kate Gosselin wasn’t the lowest-scoring contestant on Monday’s Dancing With the Stars’ season-10 premiere.

She was the third lowest.

The 34-year-old reality mom and pro partner Tony Dovolani garnered 16 points out of a possible 30; only All My Children star Aiden Turner and 80-year-old astronaut Buzz Aldrin scored lower, with 15 and 14 points respectively.

Dressed in a sparkly, light-pink gown, Gosselin did the Viennese Waltz with Dovolani to Billy Joel’s “Always a Woman.” (A classic guy’s ballad about a strong-willed, difficult girlfriend.)

When the highly-anticipated number was done, judge Len Goodman surmised, “the first dance is like your first date…You looked nervous. You didn’t come out and just dance with any fluidity.” For her performance next week, he urged her to “enjoy the experience.”

High-strung judge Bruno Tonioli was blunter. “The technique was terrible,” he said as Gosselin listened with a stoic, tight-lipped expression. “It looked like Tony was pushing a shopping cart across the floor. You have to exude something!” he implored.

Carrie Ann Inaba added kindly, “you’re very different than a lot of the other people on the show,” noting that most DWTS contestants, unlike the former nurse, are athletes or performers. But she praised Gosselin, too. “There’s a sweet vulnerability to what you do. You have an honesty that resonates with people.”

After receiving her low marks backstage, Gosselin told new host Brooke Burke that she was “honored to be here, glad that it’s over and glad that my kids can rest easy tonight.”

Before their performance began, rehearsal footage — some that appeared to be in her family’s Wernersville, Penn. basement, others in L.A. — showed Gosselin struggling with her nerves.

“She has to communicate enjoyment in order for this performance to work,” Dovolani admitted to the cameras. He tells her, “I’m like, ‘okay, does she want to be here?”

“The excitement is somewhere underneath all the insecurities,” Gosselin said. “Hang in there with me.”

Also battling novice-dancer jitters: The Bachelor’s Jake Pavelka. “I don’t think I’m a great dancer,” the 32-year-old pilot said forlornly during rehearsals. “I come in here and feel dumb every day.”

But Pavelka and partner Chelsie Hightower fared better than Gosselin with their Viennese waltz (to the Bachelor-esque song “Kiss From a Rose”), scoring a 20. Len Goodman advised him to “stop sticking your bum out.” Bruno Tolioni called the number “a little rough..Don’t bash her about all the time!”

Pavelka’s fiancee Vienna Girardi applauded his routine in the audience, and Brooke Burke asked how dancing on live TV compared to his on-air proposal. “Proposing to Vienna was the honor of my life,” he gushed. “But this is scary!” Girardi’s seat companion: Gia Allemand, the third-place finisher for Pavelka’s hand on The Bachelor.

Dressed in hot-pink, Pam Anderson got a “sexy, sexy and more sexy!” rave from Tolioni for her cha-cha-cha with newcomer Damian Whitewood, scoring 21 total points.

The night’s top-scoring contestant was Pussycat Dolls’ Nicole Scherzinger, who nabbed 25 points dancing the waltz with Derek Hough. “I haven’t seen a routine out of the gate like that, ever,” Inaba gushed.

Will callers and texters support Kate or Jake? The first round of eliminations doesn’t begin until next week.

Tell Us: what’d you think of the first night of performances?
