Jason Wahler: “I Am Ashamed of Everything”

Former Hills star Jason Wahler says he felt incredible “shame” when he made headlines again last weekend for his sixth alcohol-related arrest in recent years. A week prior, online video footage also surfaced of Wahler, 27, being cuffed by Mexican police in Cabo San Lucas March 11 after he allegedly got into a club brawl.

“I am very, very ashamed of everything,” he tells UsMagazine.com. “I am very sorry for everything that’s happened.”

So what went wrong for Wahler, who claimed in 2007 that he had cleaned up his act and even did a stint with inpatient rehab?

About six months ago, he tells Us he moved back to Orange County from L.A. and enrolled in the University of Phoenix in Fountain Valley, Calif., hoping to earn a business degree.

He even began going to AA up to five times a week. “I had a sponsor and stuff,” says Wahler. “You know, the whole thing.”

While traveling to L.A. “doing the whole movie stuff,” he says he “got distracted” and “started falling out of the program … I lost contact with my sponsor.”

He slowly began drinking again. “It was one drink or a few,” he says. “It wasn’t a binge or anything.”

On March 19, he was taken into custody at 10:54 p.m. for DUI while driving a 2008 Chevy Tahoe. He likely will face jail time.

He declined to talk about the incident, but he tells Us, “I think everything happens for a reason. God did that to me, so maybe I would be at [rock] bottom and want to climb my way to the top.”

With the help of his new girlfriend and friends and family, he returned to AA this past Wednesday.

“It’s all about getting back on track,” Wahler tells Us. “My girlfriend, my parents, my brothers, my sisters and a handful of my best friends are willing to do everything to keep me out of trouble.

“I never want to drink again,” he adds.

He says he’ll also avoid L.A. “unless it’s crucial for work. If I do go, I will go with my father or somebody who is a sober support. But I definitely won’t be going out!

“If I don’t stay sober,” he tells Us, “I am not going to have a life.”

Jesse James employees rally around their boss

With his familiar blue baseball cap shading his eyes, Jesse James keeps on working – it’s just about the only thing he knows to do right now. Running West Coast Choppers in Long Beach, Calif., seems to be his only solace these days while his marriage is in crisis.

But as much as he is still supported by his workers, including two female employees who spoke to People, there’s no denying the fallout from allegations that their boss cheated on his Oscar-winning wife, Sandra Bullock.

“Usually, it’s upbeat, everybody’s outgoing, joking around,” says a 24-year-old, longtime employee of both West Coast Choppers and Cisco Burger, James’s Long Beach eco-friendly burger joint. “Now when you walk in, it’s dark and gloomy.”

James, this worker says, is “keeping to himself right now,” putting on a brave face when his children are around. “He’s showing them that he’s fine, but I really know he’s not,” she says. “You can just tell by the way he sits in his office. He has a blank look.”

Every day now, it seems, brings another wave of bad news. It started when Michelle McGee, a San Diego tattoo model/stripper, claimed last week that she had a months-long affair with James. Then came allegations from another tattooed stripper, Melissa Smith, of a long affair, followed by allegations from an L.A. photographer that she was intimate with the motorcycle mogul. On Thursday, an unidentified woman, who has hired celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred, claimed she had an affair with James that only ended after the scandal broke.

For James’ employees it’s almost too much to process – and much more than they’re willing to believe. They prefer to speak of the James they know.

“Jesse is like family,” says the employee. “He’s just a righteous guy. If I have a personal problem, he’ll sit and talk to me. Not once have I felt uncomfortable with him … He’s just a sweet guy. Hearing all this stuff about him is just sad. I don’t believe any of it.”

Another female employee tells People: “He’s a great guy. Working for him has been a great experience. He’s always been very respectful … He’s got a good heart. It’s been nothing but a great experience.”

This employee lists all the good James has done, from being a devoted father to his charitable work in the Long Beach community. “The way things have been portrayed is extremely unfair and unjust,” the worker says.

And every day, she says, she sees the strain on him.

“He’s just trying to keep working hard,” the employee says. “He’s trying to concentrate on work and his kids. That’s what’s helping him get through all of this.”

Christina Hendricks Awed by High-Tech Hubby

Geoffrey Arend, the new hubby of Mad Men star Christina Hendricks, is mad for gadgets.

Hendricks said Arend, whom she married in October 2009, has tricked out their Los Angeles home with technology that “blows her mind.”

“The house is rigged,” the voluptuous redhead told People Thursday at Ann Taylor’s 2010 Fall Fashion collection showing in the lobby of New York’s Ace Hotel. “He’s got a projector in the guest room with the screen that comes down. We watch movies in bed.

“And everything is wireless,” Hendricks, 34, added. “If he goes out of town, I’m in trouble, because I don’t know how everything works.”

But Arend, 32, who played the sidekick pal in (500) Days of Summer, already has a backup plan for his tech-averse wife. “We’ve got a projector set up with streaming video,” he says. “I have this remote control. All you have to do is press the help button and it fixes everything automatically.”

Even with all their newfangled technology, the couple has some old-fashioned views of romance. “I was just thinking the other day, ‘Oh gosh, I just want to go home and read a book in bed next to my husband,’ ” Hendricks said. “And sleep … Oh, I get to do that every day until I die. It’s a nice feeling.”

Added Arend: “Having the ring on my finger it makes me realize this is the person I’ve chosen for the rest of my life. So everything that was a small little problem that could have turned into a fight, just sort of disappeared. We’re both very happy.”

Susan Boyle eyes new home

Susan Boyle has gone shopping for a birthday present – for herself.

The singing sensation, who turns 49 on April 1, has just received her first major royalty check of $6 million, and she’s ready to spend some of it.

Boyle has made an offer on a newly-built house near her home in Blackburn, Scotland. The property backs onto a small river, reportedly has five bedrooms, and was on the market for £300,000 (about $447,000).

Her spokeswoman had no comment.

If the sale goes through, it will be a big step up for Boyle: Despite her success since coming in second on Britain’s Got Talent, she has continued to live in public housing. (She had shared her home with her mother, who died in 2007.)

Becoming a celebrity has exposed the singer to security issues, including a January break-in. A 16-year-old was arrested following the incident.

While Boyle has not yet been able to enjoy the riches brought by her album I Dreamed A Dream, which has sold eight million copies, she has not been left strapped for cash, a source says.

“Susan has wanted for nothing financially and [mentor] Simon Cowell has been making sure of that,” reveals the source.

For now, the potential home-buyer will spending some time in hotels: On her birthday, Boyle will be in Tokyo, performing as a special guest with the Yomiuri Nippon Orchestra. Later in the month, she’ll head to Australia for their equivalent of the Emmy awards.

Tim McGraw, who plays Sandra Bullock’s husband in The Blind Side, is speaking out about his costar, who is dealing with allegations of infidelity by her husband Jesse James.
