Vanity Fair’s Rising Stars Include Kristen Stewart, Amanda Seyfried and More

vanityfair

It’s that time of year — Vanity Fair has released their rising stars of Hollywood issue.

The lucky beauties on the cover? Abbie Cornish, Kristen Stewart, Carey Mulligan, Amanda Seyfried, Rebecca Hall, Mia Wasikowska, Emma Stone, Evan Rachel Wood and Anna Kendrick.

You know Cornish as the girl who’s dating Ryan Phillipe now, but she’s made a name for herself in indie films like ‘Bright Star.’

Stewart, of course, needs no introduction. Although she hit it big with ‘The Twilight Saga,’ it’s clear her real passion lies in smaller, grittier films, like 2010 Sundance favorites ‘The Runaways’ and ‘Welcome to the Rileys.’

British actress Carey Mulligan is expected to earn her first Oscar nomination for her work in ‘An Education,’ and has been critically lauded for her performances in the movie.

Johnny Depp defends Roman Polanski

FP_IMAGE_4204677/FP_SET_4203071

Johnny Depp has come to the defense of Roman Polanski as he faces extradition to the U.S. on child sex charges – insisting the embattled director is “not a predator”.

The Oscar-winning filmmaker pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawful sex with a 13-year-old girl in 1977, but fled the States before his sentence could be passed.

He was arrested in Zurich last year and placed under house arrest in Switzerland. Last month, a Los Angeles judge ruled he must return to the U.S. to face sentencing.

But Depp, who collaborated with the 76 year old on 1999 thriller The Ninth Gate, insists U.S. prosecutors should take Polanski’s current home life into consideration and let the 32-year-old charges go.

Defending his former boss’ character, Depp explains: “Roman is not a predator. He’s 75 or 76 years old. He has got two beautiful kids, he has got a wife that he has been with for a long, long time. He is not out on the street.”
