Maggie Gyllenhaal: Truly ‘surprised… shocked… excited’

FP_IMAGE_4381426/FP_SET_4379346

Maggie Gyllenhaal is in Los Angeles, and it’s been a whirlwind so far for the supporting actress nominee, up for playing a single mother in Crazy Heart. She never saw this coming.

“Because I didn’t get any other nominations, I was so surprised,” she says. “I was completely shocked and so excited. I love the movie and I feel so proud of it. I’m excited about celebrating it and getting dressed up. I haven’t done work I’m more proud of.”

One of the first calls this morning came from her on-screen love and best actor favorite, Jeff Bridges. “Jeff called me this morning. He was barely even making words. He was kind of singing and moaning. He was so excited. I feel thrilled,” says Gyllenhaal.

Her day, thus far, has been all about family.

There’s a sense of excitement at home, because her husband Peter Sarsgaard’s film, An Education, is also up for best picture.

“We woke up at 5:30,” says Gyllenhaal. “I’ve been up forever already. I just got up really early and had coffee with my brother (Jake Gyllenhaal) and my daughter woke up. I haven’t had a second to breathe.”

She might have a mimosa to celebrate, but her night is wide open. “I don’t know what I’m going to do,” says the actress.

Ellen Pompeo debuts daughter Stella Luna!

21n476v

Ellen Pompeo became a first time mom late last year, and she shared the first public picture of her daughter during a taping of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Tuesday.

The “Grey’s Anatomy” star showed off a picture of baby Stella Luna being held by her father, Pompeo’s husband, Chris Ivery.

“This is precious,” DeGeneres said after the actress showed off the photo of the beautiful baby girl, who was dressed in gingham and jeans, just like her doting dad.

“Chris – he loves dressing her up like him,” Pompeo explained of her husband. “He goes out and buys her clothes that look like his clothes.”

Pompeo, who plays Patrick Dempsey’s post-it wife, Meredith Grey, on the ABC drama, said she manages to work and care for her little one with some help.

“I have an amazing baby nurse,” Pompeo said. “I couldn’t do it without her.”

The episode featuring Pompeo, will air on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Wednesday, February 3.

Brittany Murphy Memorial Mysteriously On Hold

2643qmb

From TMZ:

Brittany Murphy’s husband has suddenly called off the fundraising party he was throwing in her honor tomorrow night — but the man who pulled the plug isn’t saying why.

Simon Monjack had planned a huge launch party Thursday night for his new Brittany Murphy Foundation — an organization he claims is dedicated to arts education for children. Monjack had been reportedly soliciting $1,000 donations per person to attend.

But just days before the big night, someone called the Beverly Hills Temple of the Arts — where the event was supposed to go down — and told the Rabbi to hold the Manischewitz… because the party was off.

We’re told Monjack insists the party was simply postponed — but so far, no new date has been set.

Jennifer Garner and Jessica Biel in Marie Claire.

mc001

Jennifer Garner and Jessica Biel bonded while filming Valentine’s Day and have been friends ever since. On a rare girls’ night out, the stars dish about the difficulties of (usually) being the only woman on set, the pros and cons of having a famous significant other, and whether or not either of them really “has it all”.

“She’s not that tall, but you can tell she’s strong,” says Jessica Biel, talking about her 55-pound pit bull mix—but she could just as well be talking about herself. Biel and I are discussing our love for our dogs (she sleeps with hers as I do with mine) as we wait for her new best friend, Jennifer Garner, to join us for dinner at Madeo, a legendary Italian restaurant in Beverly Hills where Al Pacino is said to keep a standing reservation. The hostess has seated us in a booth in the farthest corner from the door in an attempt to offer some privacy, but Biel’s beauty can’t go unnoticed. Fresh from a taping of The Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien, Biel has her hair perfectly styled, her makeup perfectly applied. There are sequins sparkling on the T-shirt under her open cardigan sweater. And just moments ago, the whole restaurant watched as she gracefully strode toward this back booth.

Underneath the glitter and gloss, Biel is the real thing. At 27, she has been able to figure out how to take life seriously without taking herself so. I become aware of this when we continue our bonding over the climb she has planned up Mount Kilimanjaro. (I climbed the same mountain a few years back.) One of a group of environmental activists and artistic types who have named their trek Summit on the Summit, Biel is climbing the mountain to call attention to the world’s clean-water problem. More children, she informs me, die from polluted drinking water than from AIDS and malaria combined—one child every 15 seconds.

A murmur sweeps through the room, a sound not unlike the low roll of wind along the high heathered regions of Mount Kilimanjaro, as a slightly harried Jennifer Garner rushes through the restaurant and slips into our booth.

“Sorry I’m late, but I got lost and—” Garner stops herself upon seeing the gussied-up Biel. “You look gorgeous!” she exclaims. “And look at me. I didn’t even change my clothes to come here,” she says in the exhausted-but-happily-so tone of a mother with two young children. Garner, 37, is dressed in a black cotton turtleneck and black jeans. She wears no makeup at all, and her hair is pulled back in a ponytail. She possesses an incongruous combination of sexual charisma and girl-next-door normalcy. There is no artifice about her—it is the essence of her appeal. She is Sandra Dee—nuded.

The two stars became fast friends on the set of the film Valentine’s Day, a kind of American version of Love Actually with a roster of stars that includes Julia Roberts, Anne Hathaway, Patrick Dempsey, Bradley Cooper, Ashton Kutcher, Jamie Foxx, Jessica Alba, and Shirley MacLaine. Biel plays a single sports publicist who hates the holiday; Garner’s character has an affair with an obstetrician played by Dempsey and discovers late in the movie that he’s not what he appears to be. Matthew Fox is coming to me after “Lost”

FP_IMAGE_3140079/FP_SET_3138950

Matthew Fox tells Us magazine that he has no plans to return to television after “Lost” wraps in May.

“I’ve done two, six-year shows, about 300 hours of television,” said Fox. “I’m done with that.”

The actor, 43, doesn’t plan on giving up his craft completely, but wants to focus more on his family.

“I’m either going to make movies with filmmakers I want to work with or I’ll be doing something else entirely… My family will move to Oregon, back to the country I love,” he says of relocating his family from Hawaii. “I miss the four seasons climate. We’re building a house up there and I’ll be closer to my brothers and my mother. Our kids will be closer to their first cousins.”

Aside from starring in six seasons of “Lost,” Fox is best known for his starring role as the older brother Charlie Salinger in “Party of Five.”
