Victoria Beckham: Fashion Must Nix Too-Thin Models

Former Spice Girl turned designer Victoria Beckham has joined the campaign to convince fashion houses to avoid hiring underweight models to walk the runways.

Beckham, who launched her first couture clothing collection in 2008, made the announcement during her appearance on ABC’s “The View” on Wednesday (Feb. 17).

The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) is leading the drive to convince the industry to be more responsible when dealing with young, vulnerable models, she said.

Right now, most sample dresses shipped by designers for photo shoots and fashion shows are size “zero.” Groups are calling on the industry to raise sample dresses to a size “four.”

“The CFDA has reached out to designers, stylists and casting directors not to work with underage models, girls that are too thin and to be more ethnically aware. And I think designers are listening,” Beckham said.

“I had a casting last week and had some terribly thin girls come in, and it wouldn’t have worked. The campaign the CFDA has launched is called ‘Health is Beauty’ and they are definitely encouraging designers to work with healthier sized models,” she said.

Britney Spears’ wild spending spree!

Britney Spears is acting like money grows on trees (it basically does, for her)! Although the pop star is on a strict $1,500-a-week allowance monitored by her father, Jamie, she recently shelled out nearly $750,000 to completely renovate her Calabasas, Calif., home — including $150,000 on new furniture, $200,000 on artwork, $100,000 on a new bathroom, $150,000 on electronics and even close to $100,000 on Venetian plaster walls.

“Britney remodeled her entire home,” her friend reveals. “She loves spending money and was able to persuade her father to give it to her.”

On February 10, Britney, 29, was also spotted with her bodyguard trying out a sleek, custom Maserati in LA. “They were test-driving this amazing car, but oddly she never got behind the wheel,” says a witness. “Her bodyguard took it out for a spin, while she talked on the phone.”

Britney did go low-budget on Valentine’s Day though: She and boyfriend Jason Trawick were spotted at a McDonald’s drive-thru. “Britney loves bargain stores like Target, but she can have very, very expensive tastes, too,” says a friend. The Maserati sports car Britney was checking out sells for about $150,000, which is tough to afford on her weekly allowance.

EW Solves the Mysteries of “Lost”

While sides are being taken, lines are being drawn, and the battle between good and evil is just heating up – this week’s Entertainment Weekly pays a visit to the Island to get exclusive scoop on what the final season is all about – and how it may end.

As the intricate, intoxicating, and occasionally infuriating drama stands 13 episodes from the finish line, one thing is clear: Executive producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof aren’t playing it safe. While they’ve begun the process of resolving some of the show’s biggest mysteries, they’ve also dropped a provocative parallel-universe paradigm in viewers’ laps. Fans have greeted season 6’s first few episodes with oohs, ahhhs, and a few harrumphs. “I certainly was not prepared for the level of scrutiny that the show is being held to this season,” says Cuse. “It’s like if you actually had to have your Christmas televised as the Super Bowl halftime show, and America was going to watch what you bought for your family as presents and then pass judgment on them.”

All the tension boils down to this one overarching question: Can the Lost enterprise boldly go where few mystery dramas have gone before – Satisfactory Resolutionville? As much as fans want to be gobsmacked every single weak, Lindelof and Cuse say that, like it or not, they have chosen to make season 6 a deliberately mounting saga; each episode is an important chapter, but some are more monumental than others. Coming off Feb. 16’s meaty episode, the series will unleash a succession of episodes that further illuminate Island mysteries, bring back more old favorites, and set the stage for the first major battle in the epic standoff between good and evil. “The stakes are rising,” warns Evangeline Lilly. “We’re building to a situation where we have two camps of people pitted against each other….The season 6 finale is not just a big Brady Bunch party where we all have cupcakes and enjoy ourselves. Not gonna be like that.” As Matthew Fox put it, “[The season] has so far surpassed whatever my imagination could have dreamed. I feel really fortunate to have been a part of this series. It’s going to go down as one of the all-time greats.”

When Cuse and Lindelof originally began planning the final season, they looked at two possible scenarios: telling a story about a profoundly tweaked Lost timeline off the Island, or one in which the characters’ attempt to rewrite history didn’t work. Then they decided to do both. “We thought just doing one would not inherently be satisfying,” says Cuse. “We’ve designed each season to be its own thing. This season is about parallel timelines. The thing that was appealing to us as storytellers is that in hitting that reset button, we get to make the show really feel like season 1. We’re basically getting to tell origins for the characters all over again.”

The Island bluff-master Ben (played by Michael Emerson) offered the most alluring analysis of this season’s trippy story. “What if you saw what the show meant, but couldn’t recognize it?” says Emerson, who also gave voice to what many in the Lost audience were likely thinking after watching the premiere. “Like the viewers who saw the finale of season 5, I thought, ‘As soon as we come back, there’s going to be some great revelation about what all has changed,’” he says. “It’s full of amazing events and crazy-good scenes. But I can’t put it all together from where I’m at right now.”

For those viewers who share Emerson’s view, keep in mind that Lost seasons tend to end with a wow, not an ow. “All we can say is, Be patient,” says Lindelof. “You’ve come with us this far. Maybe we haven’t earned your trust, but whether you like it or not, you’re in the car and we’re driving. You have to basically trust us not to go off the road.” Adds Cuse: “If you’re feeling sick, roll the window down and throw up. But don’t get out of the car.”

Scott Disick speaks out!

It’s been a rough couple of months for Kourtney Kardashian’s boyfriend and baby-daddy Scott Disick, who’s been the aim of much scrutiny for his behavior both on and off Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

Scott called Ryan’s radio show Thursday to tell his side of the story, following a scathing In Touch Weekly cover story with the headline “Boyfriend From Hell.”

On being a new father:
“It’s unbelievable. It’s definitely more than I ever could have imagined it would be. The first week or two it’s definitely life changing and like people always tell you, it gets better per day. Everyday is a new adventure with him.”

On Kris Jenner lashing out at him on the show:
“When I hear Kris’ voice, I hear anger at all times.”

On getting back on Kris Jenner’s good side:
“I figure we can bridge the gap if I start training really hard right now in either football or basketball, but I don’t know how long it would take to be in the NBA or the NFL.”

On a grudge with Lamar Odom and Reggie Bush:
“I care for both of the athletes that are in the family. Kris just thinks that if you’re an athlete you tend to be a better person, when that’s not always the case.”

On mending his relationship with Kris Jenner:
“Honestly, deep down, I think we both love each other a little bit, and I think that will come to the surface in due time. We already are getting along better these days. And now that Mason’s here and she’s a grandmother and she realizes she’s not a 20 year-old kid, I think her attitude has changed for the better, and I’m appreciative of it.”
