Victoria Beckham: Fashion Must Nix Too-Thin Models

Former Spice Girl turned designer Victoria Beckham has joined the campaign to convince fashion houses to avoid hiring underweight models to walk the runways.
Beckham, who launched her first couture clothing collection in 2008, made the announcement during her appearance on ABC’s “The View” on Wednesday (Feb. 17).
The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) is leading the drive to convince the industry to be more responsible when dealing with young, vulnerable models, she said.
Right now, most sample dresses shipped by designers for photo shoots and fashion shows are size “zero.” Groups are calling on the industry to raise sample dresses to a size “four.”
“The CFDA has reached out to designers, stylists and casting directors not to work with underage models, girls that are too thin and to be more ethnically aware. And I think designers are listening,” Beckham said.
“I had a casting last week and had some terribly thin girls come in, and it wouldn’t have worked. The campaign the CFDA has launched is called ‘Health is Beauty’ and they are definitely encouraging designers to work with healthier sized models,” she said.

WTF????? I just read on another website how Victoria said that models shouldn’t be discriminated against regarding their weight. Her words were something like, “Women come in all different sizes. Some are naturally really thin.” Just another example of her contradicting herself AGAIN. I think this woman says whatever she thinks the interviewer wants to hear in that moment.

actually, i saw The View and she says both things in the same show. it is possible that she thinks SOME models are naturally quite thin, and that they shouldn’t be discriminated against, while at the same time not wanting to promote unhealthily or grotesquely thin models, and encouraging a range of sizes. (and after all, as someone so tiny, she is almost obliged to say that some people are naturally very thin, whether or not her size is natural or forced)
