Mark Wahlberg is no stranger to pushing the envelope when it comes to movie roles. In his latest film, The Lovely Bones, the actor – who plays a father trying to cope with his daughter’s murder – went far beyond his comfort zone, forcing him into a state of mind he hopes never to experience in real life.

“That’s what I need to do to get there … Think about something horrible,” Wahlberg tells PEOPLE. “It’s not a fun thing to do – that’s the thing that bothered me the most.”

As a father to children Ella, 6, Michael, 3 ½, Brendan, 16 months, and newborn Grace, Wahlberg admits that experiencing parenthood first-hand gave him the ability to envision the worst and feel emotions he never thought possible.

“I have 13 nieces and nephews and I think, ‘Wow, I love these kids like they’re my own,’ ” he explains. “But now, if anyone did anything to harm my kids, as much as I love them, that would be it.”

Elated with fatherhood – calling it his “most important job ever, being a dad” – Wahlberg laughs as he recalls the moment he found out his first child would be a girl. “When I first realized I was having a daughter, I was a little freaked out,” he says. “But, of course, it’s the best thing to ever happen to me.”

With the family taking time off to celebrate the arrival of a second daughter, Grace, the break couldn’t come at a better time, the actor explains.

“I’ve been working so much in New York since September,” Wahlberg says. “I’m just going to be home and not have anything to do but play with the kids … and spend some quality time with my wife.”

Courtney Love has again taken to Twitter, this time to rant about her plans to sue the mother and sister of Love’s late husband Kurt Cobain over custody of daughter Frances Bean.

Using the new Twitter handle CourtneyLoveUK, the Hole frontwoman insisted: “this s–t with the bean needs to be exposed for what it is right f–king NOW enough.”

Love, 45, also wrote (spelling and grammar hers): “they squeesed my bank accounts so that they were frozen because they know im going to sue the holy s–t out of them and now are … crocodiling my kid whose better than this seriously she was raised too well to be bought,” referring to her daughter’s grandmother, Kimberly Dawn Cobain, and aunt Wendy O’Connor.

Love, 45, has a temporary restraining order against her that prevents her from contacting her 17-year-old daughter.

Another Tweet from Love proclaims: “im severely lonely without my best friend and no am not on drugs BTW.”

Harvard is sweet on The Devil Wears Prada star Anne Hathaway.

The Ivy League university will bestow its Hasty Pudding Woman of the Year award on Hathaway at a parade and ceremony Jan. 28, organizers have announced.

The actresss, 27, was named to the honor by Harvard’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals – the country’s oldest undergraduate drama troupe – for her “contribution to entertainment.”

Hathaway, whose other films include Brokeback Mountain, Becoming Jane and Rachel Getting Married, was chosen because of the variety of her roles on screen and on the stage, a spokesman for the group told the The Harvard Crimson student newspaper.

“That theater aspect really hit home for us, for the Pudding, and we’re so excited for her to come,” he said.

The group’s man of the year recipient has yet to be revealed.

Last year, honorees Renée Zellweger and James Franco received golden pudding pots – to mark a tradition that began in 1795, when Harvard members of the club pledged to bring “a pot of hasty pudding” to each meeting.

We’ve got Tonight? Not after Jan. 22.

Conan O’Brien’s last night as host of The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien will likely be next Friday, a source close to O’Brien tells People.

“Conan does not currently plan on doing any more new shows after next week,” says the source. NBC declined comment.

On Tuesday, the host released a statement saying that he would not go along with NBC’s plan for him to host a relocated Tonight Show at 12:05 a.m., following The Jay Leno Show at 11:35 p.m.

“I cannot participate in what I honestly believe is [The Tonight Show's] destruction,” said O’Brien.

If Jan. 22 is indeed O’Brien’s final broadcast, the show will have ended two weeks before NBC’s scheduled preemption for its 2010 Winter Olympics coverage.

Australian actor Sam Worthington was stunned to find out he’d be appearing alongside Keira Knightley and Eva Mendes in a movie – because he only agreed to take on the role as a favor.

The “Avatar” actor signed up to star in Massy Tadjedin’s upcoming film “Last Night”, and he felt like he’d hit the jackpot when she mentioned he would be sharing the screen with two Hollywood beauties.

And his friends were so keen to meet the female stars, they rushed to visit Worthington in New York while he filmed the movie. He says, “I did the film as a favor to the director and then she said, ‘I have Keira Knightley and Eva Mendes too.’ So I thought, ‘Let’s go to the lottery!’ Suddenly all my mates, who weren’t that bothered before, wanted to come out to New York and hang out with Keira and Eva. Strange that.”

The story follows a married couple,(Worthington and Knightley) apart for a night while the husband takes a business trip with a colleague to whom he’s attracted (Mendes). While he’s resisting temptation, his wife encounters her past love.(Canet)
