The Ohio police chief found guilty of being involved in a a break-in at the home of the surrogate mother for Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick has been sentenced to prison.

Barry Carpenter, 40, was received two years and eight months in prison from an Ohio judge on Wednesday, a sentence his attorney said he would appeal.

In announcing the sentence, the judge called prison time “a must,” the Associated Press reports. Carpenter could have received up to six years in jail.

In November, Carpenter, 40, was found of receiving stolen property, theft in office, and tampering with evidence. He and another police chief were accused of breaking into the Ohio home of Parker and Broderick’s surrogate, stealing items such as a poem, photos, legal documents about the surrogacy agreement, and pictures of ultrasounds, and offering them for sale to a freelance photographer. The photographer later told the surrogacy agency, which contacted police.

Carpenter was found not guilty of two counts of burglary and one count of unauthorized use of property or services.

Since his conviction, Carpenter’s been under house arrest at his mother’s house till his sentencing, wearing a GPS device that tracks him. He resigned from office two weeks ago.

Carpenter maintained he only went into the house because he noticed a door ajar, and didn’t take anything. He said that he was merely joking with photographers when he offered the surrogate’s things for sale.

The surrogate had been staying at a West Virginia hotel during the break-in, and noticed items missing and out of place when she returned home. Carpenter and his alleged accomplice, Bridgeport Police Chief Chad M. Dojack, 29, were arrested in July.

Parker, 44, said that the incident made her fear for the safety of her twin children, . Surrogate Michelle Ross, 26, gave birth to the twin girls on June 22.

Dojack will stand trial in January.

The couple is expecting a baby girl, a source tells People.

Grey’s Anatomy star Dane, 37, and Gayheart, 38, shared their good news in September by stepping out once the actress began to show, but never formally announced the pregnancy.

The couple were married in a 2004 Vegas wedding.

News of the Gayheart-Dane baby’s gender was first reported by E! Online’s Marc Malkin.

Are Hailey Glassman and Jon Gosselin ready to stop their public game of he said-she said?

According to a source, “Jon is in New York and is speaking to Hailey. They’re trying to come to a resolution.”

Things have gotten ugly between the pair in recent weeks. On Wednesday morning, reports emerged that Glassman had filed a formal complaint with the NYPD alleging Gosselin pushed her during a Dec. 20 argument.

For his part, Gosselin has insinuated that Glassman may be connected to the alleged holiday ransacking of their apartment.

Gosselin’s lawyer also spoke out and attempted to discredit Glassman’s claims of pushing, telling RadarOnline, “When Hailey was contacted by police [about trashing the apartment], her legal people decide to come up with this ploy to say he harassed her.”

Meanwhile, Glassman’s camp is defending her allegations. “Yes, that incident took place on the night of December 20th and there is no denying the fact that my client is in fact a victim of domestic violence,” says her attorney Anand Ahuja.

Now, a source tells People that the prickly couple are trying to settle their differences privately. “[Jon] won’t press charges if she returns what he says is his, like the TV, the Wii, etc.”

Glassman’s camp has maintained that she had permission to take items from the apartment.
