Carrie Underwood and Ottawa Senator hockey player Mike Fisher are engaged.
According to the Ottawa Sun, he confirmed the news at a press conference Monday. He said he popped the question Sunday, but declined to offer any other details.
“It’s true,” he said. “We’re both obviously excited and very happy.”
His teammate Chris Neil said Fisher, 29, called him shortly after he proposed. “I think it’s great,” Neil told reporters. “It’s a long time coming. There’s going to be a lot of broken hearts in Ottawa with all those girls who are in love with Mikey.”
Underwood, 26, and Fisher have mostly been hush-hush about their relationship since they began dating last year.
But lately, they’ve been opening up.
Underwood gushed about the hockey player, 29, on the liner notes of her new CD, Play On.
“Thank you #12,” she wrote, referring to his jersey number. “You are the most amazing addition to my life! You are such a wonderful person and have had such an amazing hand in the building of this album and in the growth of me as a person. I love you so much! You make my life better in every way! I thank God for you every day… xoxo, Carrie.”
Jessica Simpson has to be drunk, right? What other explanation could there be? She posted this video of herself on her Twitter, and it’s very odd. She’s seen placing a burning candle in her ear. WTF? Exactly what I was thinking.
Ken Paves‘ voice is annoying!

UPDATE: After the commenter below pointed it out – I looked it up and this process is called “Candling”. Ear candling, also called ear coning or thermal-auricular therapy, is an alternative medicine practice claimed to improve general health and well-being by lighting one end of a hollow candle and placing the other end in the ear canal. According to medical researchers, it is both dangerous and ineffective. Claims that the practice removes earwax have been disproved. The claim by one manufacturer that ear candles originated with the Hopi tribe has also been disproven.
I never knew such a thing existed! (Doesn’t make the video any less strange, though!)

Here’s all you need to know regarding the latest on the passing of Brittany Murphy over the weekend. You can keep coming back to this post for updates.
Brittany Murphy was very ill the hours before she passed. Brittany was taking prescription medications for flu-like symptoms. She was vomitting early Sunday morning, and told family she felt very sick.
Brittany’s mom discovered her unconscious in the shower Sunday morning. Brittany collapsed in the bathroom, and somehow ended up in the shower. According to TMZ, there was a considerable amount of vomit in the bathroom.
Brittany’s mother claims that Brittany suffered from diabetes. That has not been confirmed. She apparently suffered from Type 2 diabetes – which people close to the case said would not have caused her death.
Brittany went into full cardiac arrest Sunday morning around 8:00am. Her husband Simon Monjack was the one to call 911.
When paramedics arrived, they performed CPR immediately, but she was unresponsive. She was then rushed to Cedars Sinai Medical Center where she was pronounced dead at 10:04 AM.
LAPD launches an investigation into her death. No foul play is suspected.
Sources say various prescriptions were found in the house. One source says, “There were a lot … a lot of prescriptions in the house.” Authorities did not find any illegal drugs in the house.
Through Brittany’s rep, the family released a statement: “The sudden loss of our beloved Brittany is a terrible tragedy. She was our daughter, our wife, our love and a shining star. We ask you to respect our privacy at this time.”
Brittany’s husband Simon told hospital staff he did NOT want an autopsy performed on his wife. Despite his wishes, LA County Coroner’s office WILL perform an autopsy.
Brittany’s autopsy is currently underway.

That’s quite the look! PETA would have a field day with that!

So how many of you went and saw Avatar this weekend? I tried to go see it last night, and the line was so long, I couldn’t even see the end! I’m hoping to sneak out this week and see it during the day. If you saw it – let me know what you thought! I’m really curious!
From Entertainment Weekly:
After months of breathless buzz, speculation, and doubt, James Cameron’s Avatar finally arrived in movie theaters nationwide, and its box office prognosis definitely isn’t blue. The 3-D sci-fi epic landed at number one with an estimated $73 million, according to Hollywood.com Box Office. The number is certainly on the lower end of expectations for the long-anticipated film, but considering that much of the east coast was buried under record snowfall for most of the weekend, it remains an unambiguously solid opening — the best 3-D debut ever and the second-best December debut behind I Am Legend. Also unambiguous: The film’s rock-solid “A” CinemaScore rating, which, along with the raves currently streaming across Twitter and inundating message boards (like this one), suggests it will grow long legs at the box office well into the new year. (It’s no wonder that IMAX screenings of the film reportedly sold-out every single seat.) Worldwide, the picture’s already banked an estimated $232.2 million.
