Freddie Prinze Jr. is enjoying fatherhood

Freddie Prinze Jr & Sarah Michelle Gellar

Freddie Prinze Jr. is relishing his new role as a parent – because he spent years longing for a child after losing his own dad at a young age.

The actor was just 12 months old when comedian Freddie Prinze took his own life – and he admits the tragedy left him dreaming about the day he would have a baby of his own.

And now he’s hoping he can build a happy family with his wife Sarah Michelle and their little girl, Charlotte Grace, who they welcomed in September.

He tells People magazine, “I always appreciated that connection between a parent and a kid because I yearned for it so much. Growing up, I wanted a father, and because I’ve had this idea of what a father should be, it’s exciting to finally have the opportunity to try and be that guy, to see if I can actually do it.”

And he is delighted his firstborn is a girl – because he would have struggled to teach a son how to “fight” and be “macho”.

He adds, “A lot of guys want sons, but that would have been a lot of pressure. I know throughout my childhood, there were many times I couldn’t stand being a ‘Jr.’ I wouldn’t want anybody else to go through that. If we’d had a boy, he wouldn’t have been another Freddie Prinze. To have a girl, I almost felt like, ‘Whew!’ I know how to protect her and keep her away from the kind of kid I was. I know I can shower a little girl with love. A little boy comes home one day, and he needs to learn how to fight. That’s all macho stuff, dealing with ego and pride, and I don’t want to have to deal with that. I’d rather deal with a broken heart than a broken nose.”

Robin Wright Penn quit Hollywood for her kids

Robin Wright Penn

Robin Wright Penn moved her family out of Hollywood after witnessing Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daily struggle with photographers.

The Forrest Gump star, who filed for divorce from Sean Penn in August, packed up their home because she didn’t want her two children growing up in a “weird” community obsessed with celebrity.

She says, “I didn’t want to raise my kids in this weird, sycophantic society. If you have celebrity parents, it’s not a good recipe for the kids, or anyone at any age. Look at what Brad and Angelina go through.”

Miley Cyrus doesn’t want to be an ‘idol’

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus doesn’t want to be “an idol” for her young fans.

The “Hannah Montana” star insists she would rather be a role model who people look up to than an idealistic figure that teenagers want to be like.

She said: “If you look at me as a role model I agree with it. If you look at me as an idol, I don’t agree. An idol for me is someone that you want to replicate. You want to be them. I don’t wish that on anyone, to lose what they have personally, because that’s when your spark goes.”

Miley, 16 – whose controversial behavior has included appearing in racy photos published in Vanity Fair magazine, dancing with a stripper pole during this year’s Teen Choice Awards, and seemingly grabbing her crotch during a concert – also revealed she is planning to undertake charity work in Indonesia next year.

She told Britain’s Daily Record newspaper: “I’ve been planning going to Indonesia since I was eight. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, and I was never old enough to go with my church when they all headed out there.”

Miley was recently voted Worst Celebrity Influence by a teen website.

Natalie Portman talks about nude scenes in movies

Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman always thinks twice before agreeing to strip off on film – because she fears her naked image will end up on pornography websites.

The actress admits she struggled with the decision to appear nude at the start of her career, and even asked filmmakers to rewrite a scene in her 1999 movie Anywhere But Here because she felt uneasy about baring all.

She tells V magazine, “I was figuring out my own sexual identity, likes and dislikes and all that stuff, and it’s weird to be doing stuff on film as you’re figuring it out. Also being a sexual object when you’re a kid is really uncomfortable. After The Professional, I was already getting creepy letters.”

Portman insists she would sign up for more film roles that require her to shed her clothes – but she worries the footage will eventually hit the web.

She adds, “It’s annoying because online bulls**t interferes with what I want to do artistically. I’m not opposed to sexuality or nudity in a film, but I’m very opposed to pornography sites and you’re pretty much giving them material if you do any of that. It’s always a big dilemma for me.”

Kate Hudson celebrates Yankees win with A-Rod’s family

Kate Hudson

Kate Hudson helped her baseball star beau Alex Rodriguez celebrate the New York Yankees’ championship win on Wednesday night by partying with his family.

The actress joined celebrities including her mother Goldie Hawn’s longtime partner Kurt Russell, director Spike Lee, real estate mogul Donald Trump and R&B superstar Mary J. Blige, who sang the National Anthem before the game, at Yankees Stadium to cheer the team to victory.

Hudson proved to be Rodriguez’s lucky charm as the all-star team cruised to a 7-3 win against the Philadelphia Phillies, landing them their 27th World Series.

The Almost Famous star joined the victory party at Manhattan hotspot 1Oak, where she danced the night away with the Yankees, as well as Rodriguez’s mum, Lourdes, and his sister, Suzy.

Nicole Kidman’s on a mission to Kenya to fight domestic violence

Nicole Kidman

Nicole Kidman is taking the stage in Kenya in a bid to raise awareness of women affected by domestic violence.

Just last month, the star testified before lawmakers in Congress to talk about violence against woman across the world, admitting that Hollywood “probably” played a role in contributing to acts of aggression.

And now the Moulin Rouge! actress is raising the issue on a tour of the African country, as part of an initiative launched by the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM).

Kidman will visit the Kenyatta Hospital and a school on Friday as part of her role as a goodwill ambassador for the organization.

Encouraging the support of women in Africa, she says, “These champions need and deserve our support. Not with a box of band-aids, but with a comprehensive, well-funded approach that acknowledges that women’s rights are human rights. It is time for policies that intentionally involve society’s key communities – from health and education departments to the police and judiciary – to deliver on that commitment. To succeed, it requires political will at the highest levels.”

Kim Kardashian got a black eye from charity boxing match!

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian is nursing a black eye after a charity boxing match got out of hand.

The reality TV star was punched in the face during the bout – one of several scheduled between members of the public and the socialite’s family – on Tuesday while a match involving her brother Rob Kardashian saw him hospitalized with a concussion.

Kim said: “My girl was a good sport, but she was tough! I knew I had to do it for charity, since that’s what it was all about, but man, my girl could throw a punch!”

While the ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ star was satisfied with her opponent, something went wrong when someone who appeared to be “a trained fighter” got into the ring with her brother.

Kim said: “At one point Rob’s mask fell off and when he put his hands down he got hit in the face and ended up in hospital with a concussion. Rob’s a strong guy and can definitely hold his own, but he wasn’t expecting to get hit after his mask had fallen off! This guy just got really down and dirty!”

Members of the public who’d bid to fight the family were supposed to be screened to be similar weights to their opponents.

Khloe Kardashian and her sister Kourtney’s boyfriend, Scott Disick, then backed out of their fights.
