Review: “Brand New” releases new album “Daisy”, and pictures from their concert!

Here is a review and pictures from their live show in Portland, Oregon.  They were awesome!  Pictures by Troy Kujala Photography. Review written by Trista K.

Having just released their much-anticipated Senior album, Daisy, Brand New appeared to be immersed in their on-going transformation during their sold-out performance at the Roseland Theatre. A somber-looking Jesse Lacey (lead vocals/guitar) leisurely walked out on stage in a casual flannel and bright blue beanie, not to move from that very spot for the entire 90-plus minute set. Jesse did, however, manage to bellow out a variety of new songs from Daisy, as well as more familiar tracks from Deja Entendu (2003), and The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me (2006), with an obvious raw sincerity. Brand New’s other members kept the crowd eager by thrashing around the rest of the stage. Sing-alongs ensued, followed by what seemed like confusion at times as to what to do with the bands latest, and more introspective, complex tracks. With the light of a single spotlight, Lacey closed the show with a moving rendition of “Play Crack the Sky”, where in the darkness of the stage, Jesse’s younger brother and theManchester Orchestra front man, Andy Hull, stepped up and added more effect to an already compelling conclusion. Overall, Brand New’s performance left you with more questions than answers and a new curiosity to further explore the inner-workings of Daisy.

Opening for Brand New, no one seemed to want to move anywhere but forward in anticipation of Atlanta, Georgia’s Manchester Orchestra. And rightfully so. This rock band put on a non-stop, delightfully intense performance that was both exhilarating and highly animated. Though they are a young band, the dynamics of Manchester Orchestra on stage tell a story of a unique unity that surpasses the more experienced. Manchester’s latest album, Mean Everything to Nothing, has received much praise from critics and fans alike, and their live performance leaves no less to be expected.

For their first performance of the tour, Portland’s own The Builders and the Butchers kicked off the show with an effective set list from their latest album, Salvation is a Deep Dark Well, that had the crowd clapping and stomping along to every song. These five natives of Alaska have settled into an ever-growing fan base since forming their Southern-Gothic quartet in 2005. The Builders and the Butchers left an energetic buzz swirling around the venue as they exited the stage, proving to be a great new addition to the tour.

Jennifer Lopez & Marc Anthony Attending “Fiesta Latina” At White House

“Buenos Noches, Welcome to the White House,” the president said Tuesday night as the South Lawn was transformed into “Fiesta Latina” – a night to celebrate Latin Music.

The president said that Latin music should not only be noted for the “spirit of diversity,” but also by the ability it has to make you want to just dance.

“Even though it’s constantly evolving and changing, Latin music speaks to us in a language we can all understand — about hope and joy, sorrow and pain, friendship and love. It moves us, and it tends to make us move a little bit ourselves.”

Trista Sutter: How I got my pre-baby body back!

trista_before_after.jpg

Former star of The Bachelorette Trista Sutter is the first to admit what every new mom knows: Taking off the baby weight is really hard work. And for Trista, who added roughly 43 pounds to her 110-pound body before giving birth to her second child in April, dropping down to 108 pounds was a major accomplishment. “It was harder to lose weight this time around,” Trista told Life & Style while showing off her new body on Sept. 22. “I gained 10 more pounds this time” with Blakesley, 6 months, than with Max, now 2.

But it wasn’t all work. “I’m in mommy mode all day long, so to have an hour to myself four times a week to just sweat it out is a little relief for me,” Trista, 36, tells Life & Style. “My routine is a mix of cardio and interval resistance training.” Trista also had to be more conscious of her post-pregnancy diet because she was a little less focused on what she was eating during her pregnancy. “I had gestational diabetes with Max, so I really had to watch what I ate at the end of that pregnancy. With Blakesley, I didn’t have diabetes, so I went all out — I ate everything,” she says.

Trista says it took six to eight weeks after starting her regimen to see the results she wanted. And simply wanting to get back to her svelte self motivated Trista the most. “I’m definitely my own worst critic,” she says. “I’m very critical of how I look and feel, mainly because I want to feel sexy for my husband,” Ryan Sutter, whom Trista met on The Bachelorette and married in 2003.

Paris Hilton’s canned wine flops

1zcn8r9.jpg

Paris Hilton’s naked form can’t save her wine collection being canned.

The socialite stripped off and covered herself in gold paint to promote her range of sparkling Prosecco.

But after poor sales figures, the wine has now been blasted by food chiefs – who say it can’t be served in a tin.

The bubble burst when the Italian Agriculture Ministry launched a legal challenge to ban makers from calling the canned wine a ‘rich prosecco,’ on the grounds it was not being served in a bottle.

Strict rules prevent sparkling prosecco wine from being sold in anything except a bottle.

However maker Gunther Aloys has defended the product

He said: “We’ll just change its name – and we’re talking with Paris about extending our contract to market the new product.”

Aloys, who runs a hotel in the posh western Austrian ski resort of Ischgl, said he expected to sell around five million cans this year.
