Life & Style has learned exclusively that Paula Abdul is not returning to Idol because producers refused to raise her salary! “Paula had demanded a raise from $8 million to $12 million to stay on as a judge on Idol,” an insider close to the show tells Life & Style. “And her management took a tough line with show’s bosses and refused to negotiate.”

Paula was shocked when Idol executives then failed to raise her $8 million salary. “Paula’s managers issued a statement in July saying Paula hadn’t been offered a deal at all, which only inflamed the situation,” the insider continues. “After that, the relations between both sides deteriorated to the point where Paula’s management was slamming the phone down on Idol staff.”

Paula is said to be upset because her co-stars, like Simon Cowell and Ryan Seacrest, hold much more lucrative contracts. “Paula’s team believes that because Simon, Randy Jackson and Ryan have such great deals, Paula deserved more.”

And the whole situation is taking a toll on the former pop star. “Poor Paula has been having daily meltdowns over the negotiations,” says the insider, and has been left feeling hurt and abandoned by her Idol colleagues.”

While all eyes are focused on her skirt-chasing estranged husband, Kate Gosselin has set her sights on a romantic hideaway in Rockville, Md. — less than 40 feet from her bodyguard boyfriend, Steve Neild!

As we report in this week’s issue of Star, multiple sources confirm that Kate —in spite of her denials — has bought a luxurious apartment in the Palladian Condominium, where she can spend time up with Steve while her soon-to-be-ex-husband Jon Gosselin has his turn watching their eight children.

“Kate is definitely going to be living here,” says one building insider. Kate tried her best to keep the condo purchase under wraps, but her secret got out anyway. “She negotiated and bought the place in her lawyer’s name,” explains the insider, adding that Kate paid about $700,000 for the one bedroom lovenest.

“Kate feels like she has her cake and gets to eat it too,” snipes a friend of Jon. “She has the big house with her children in Pennsylvania and a hideaway with her new love in Maryland. What more could she ask for?”

Perhaps a secret getaway with Steve under the guise of work. Kate took her three sons to Wyoming for a five-day camping trip on July 29 with Steve right by her side. The trip was filmed for Jon & Kate Plus 8, so they can use the show as the perfect cover!

She has one of the hottest bodies in Hollywood, but Jessica Biel would be the first to say it’s not all in the genes. Life & Style met up with the 27-year-old on June 26 as she endured an hour of boot-camp-style moves at Live-in Fitness Enterprise Inc. in Marina Del Rey, Calif. And the intensity of the workout was evident. “I’m not just glistening — that’s all sweat,” she told Life & Style after completing the routine. “It was tough, and I’ll definitely be back for more. But I’m tired!”

The program (found at liveinfitnessenterprise.com) provides customized five-to-seven-hour exercise plans, which Jess’ Iron Ocean Films partner and workout buddy Michelle Purple suggested the star try. Of course, Jessica is used to pushing herself to the limit. “I’ve worked out five hours, sometimes more, in a single day if I’m training for a movie role or something,” she says. “And it’s hard. It’s very hard!”

While diet and exercise don’t consume her, Jessica incorporates them into her daily routine. “Health and fitness are a part of my everyday life,” says Jessica. “I’m not perfect, of course. But I do make them a priority.”
