Ryan Reynolds: ‘I have every intention of adopting’

Ryan Reynolds

Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson are planning to adopt.

“My oldest brother is adopted and I have every intention of adopting at some time,” Reynolds, 32, tells British Glamour in its new issue. “I’m very grateful for having my brother in my life. I couldn’t be more pro-adoption. There are plenty of kids in the world that need it.”

Reynolds – who currently headlines the Sandra Bullock romantic comedy The Proposal – also reflects on his own family life, growing up in Vancouver.

“I learned how to take a punch from a very early age,” says the star, who is now known for his chiseled abs. “I was routinely pummeled into a fine cottage cheese.”

As for his good looks (and brains), Reynolds thanks his parents.

“I have my father’s face and body, but my mother’s unshakeable thirst for knowledge,” he says. “She works part-time jobs, but basically she’s been a student her whole life. She still goes to university and she’s in her 60s.”

Reynolds wed Johansson, 24, in an intimate ceremony at a Canadian wilderness retreat last year.

In the February issue of Harper’s Bazaar, the actress said she and Reynolds have no plans to start a family just yet.

Said Johansson (now shooting Iron Man 2), “I’m not pregnant nor will I be any time soon.”

Sacha Baron Cohen involved in murder threat

Sacha Baron Cohen

Sacha Baron Cohen was left fearing for his life after a cage-fight mob threatened to kill him as he filmed his new movie Bruno.

The British funnyman was shooting scenes while in character as the outrageous Austrian fashion journalist hosting a real cage fight in Arkansas.

The star was told he didn’t have to worry about his safety, so he challenged the booing audience to a fight – but was confronted by a muscleman within seconds.

Cohen was scared for his life as the mob urged the fighter to “kill him”, but he managed to escape through a secret door.
The actor says, “There were 2,000 drunk good old boys baying for blood. I was told not to worry, it would take someone two minutes to climb in the cage. The audience booed me and I challenged them to a fight, thinking I was safe. Then a 6 feet 8 inches steroid-ed guy catapulted over the fence in two seconds and stood in front of me as the crowd cheered, ‘Kill him, kill him’.”

Michael Jackson Memorial Costs Los Angeles $1.4 Million

Michael Jackson

Tuesday’s memorial service for Michael Jackson cost the financially-strapped city of Los Angeles $1.4 million.

The amount included $1.1 million in overtime pay for the 4,173 police officers who worked to secure Staples Center, Forest Lawn cemetery and other areas that attracted more than 17,000 fans and members of the media, the Police Department said in a statement.

The remaining amount was spent on traffic control, cleanup and other memorial service costs.

Despite the high cost, Matt Szabo — a spokesman for Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa — told the Associated Press the amount was “far less” than the initial estimate of $4 million.

Still, city attorney Carmen Trutanich said his office was investigating how the city can legally press third parties to pick up at least some of the tab. A report will be delivered to City Council by Friday. City Council will then create a policy declaring who should pay for city services associated with such events.

Los Angeles is $530 million in debt.

A PayPal donation site has been set up for public donations. So far, $17,000 has been donated as of Thursday afternoon.

Justin Timberlake is writing a golf book

Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake is writing a book about golf.

The ‘SexyBack’ singer has reportedly employed a literary agent to send out a short synopsis of the planned tome, in the hope of securing a publishing deal.

The book is said to be a memoir which follows “Timberlake’s time on the green and his experiences playing with various competitors”.

Agent David Vigliano got in touch with several editors last month, it has been claimed.

Justin’s love of golf is well known, and he plays with an impressive six handicap.

The 28-year-old singer owns his own golf course – the Big Creek Golf Course near Memphis – and has previously admitted his proudest moment relates to the sport.

He said: “I loved appearing on the cover of Golf Digest magazine. I’m not going to lie. I mean, I’m done. I don’t have to do another magazine cover ever again.”

It has also been claimed Justin refuses to take to the course with his girlfriend Jessica Biel as she is such a strong competitor.

A source said: “He prefers not to play with her since she’s gotten so good. It’s too bad because he got her into golf in the first place.”

If Justin does publish a book on the sport he won’t be the only famous person to have done so.

In 2008, rocker Alice Cooper penned a tome called ‘Golf Monster: A Rock ‘n’ Roller’s Life and 12 Steps to Becoming a Golf Addict’.
