Russell Crowe shocked staff at a U.K. charity shop recently – after he walked in and made a $1,500 donation.

The Gladiator star is currently in Britain filming his new Robin Hood movie but took a break from his busy schedule to visit the Cancer Research store in Sunningdale, Berkshire – which is close to the film set.

And the star made a very generous contribution to the cancer charity.

A volunteer at the shop tells British newspaper the Daily Star, “We couldn’t believe it, Russell Crowe came in and gave us the money. We had been hoping to catch a glimpse of him. We were all a bit star-struck, but it was lovely to meet him and he stopped and had a bit of a chat with us.”

Twilight star Ashley Greene’s ex-boyfriend has missed out on a vampire role in the movie franchise’s third film.

Former Desperate Housewives star Josh Henderson has confirmed he auditioned for the role of Riley in Eclipse, but lost out to newcomer Xavier Samuel.

And he admits his ex fought for him to get the role: “I talked to Ashley about potentially being the new, college, all-American character that’s a vampire in the third one. I went for a few auditions, but they went with an Australian kid.”

John Mayer “slept” with nine science-fiction geeks at a comic book convention last weekend.

The ‘Gravity’ singer joked he seduced several women dressed as Japanese manga heroine Sailor Moon at Comic-Con in San Diego, California.

Writing on his Twitter account, the 31-year-old star said: “This weekend at Comic-Con I slept with nine Sailor Moons. Not an easy task when you’re dressed like a Stormtrooper (sic).”

John – who has been single since he split from ‘Marley and Me’ star Jennifer Aniston earlier this year – also used his profile on the social networking website to make a dirty joke about a fictional race of beings popularized in the ‘Star Wars’ franchise.

He said: “Sandpeople travel in single file to hide their numbers. This makes them a major letdown in gangbangs (sic).”

It’s not the first time the singer has bragged about his sexual conquests on the internet.

In May, he boasted he had persuaded “dozens” of women to leave red lipstick marks on his face during a night out in Los Angeles so the paparazzi would think he had several new girlfriends.

He wrote: “OK, check it. Just spent the last hour getting the reddest lipstick on me for a gag. When you see the pics of me leaving the club covered in kisses it’s all a gag.”

Katie Holmes narrowly avoided serious injury after a car caught fire on a movie set.

The actress, who is currently on location in Australia filming ‘Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark’, was reportedly shooting a scene in the vehicle when the battery exploded last weekend.

Katie was left shaken after dashing from the car just before it burst into flames.

A source said: “Katie was inside a car when the vehicle’s battery exploded – it was sparking smoke and fumes before the car then caught fire. The exploding battery was not a part of the film.”

In ‘Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark’ – a remake of a 1973 TV movie – Katie plays a woman who is stalked by wicked gnomes.

Katie – who is married to Tom Cruise – has previously revealed she is excited about working on the new film.

She said: “I’m really enjoying it. The movie is really character-driven. It’s really her journey becoming a mother. In the midst of that, there are unexpected scares.”

Katie has been accompanied on her trip by her three-year-old daughter Suri.

It was recently claimed the 30-year-old actress splashed out £400 to ensure her child won’t miss their Los Angeles home too much.

Katie is believed to have treated the youngster to a bicycle, a ‘Dora the Explorer’ piano, a Barbie doll, luxury bed sheets, lavish home accessories and a selection of traditional board games.

Will Ferrell is close to sealing a deal to revive his comedy newsreader character Ron Burgandy in a sequel to his hit 2004 Anchorman movie.

The funnyman is desperate to film a follow-up to Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and admits he has been in talks with movie bosses to bring the character back for a second run. And Ferrell is convinced he is close to getting a green light for the project.

He says, “The odds are good. We’re going to talk to all the guys next week – Steve Carrell, Paul Rudd and everybody else – to see if it’s feasible to do it, because everybody’s at different places right now, with totally different schedules. Hopefully we can start filming in a couple of years.”
