Matthew McConaughey put out the call for volunteers Monday … and volunteered a little information of his own about his upcoming second baby.

The actor, who announced Sunday that he and girlfriend Camilla Alves are expecting another child, spoke about their happy news at Monday’s National Conference on Volunteers and Service in San Francisco. Amid a cacophoney of cat calls and hoots and cries of “Matthew!” from the raucous crowd of 4,500, he talked about putting work and fatherhood in perspective.

“We are putting after-school fitness and wellness programs into underserved communities nationwide, teaching physical fitness, nutrition education, with an emphasis on daily gratitude for how much or how little we have,” McConaughey said of his foundation, j.k. livin. “And now that I’m blessed to be a father myself – I got one at home [Levi] who’s 11 months and as you people know, we have another one in the oven, three months – this foundation and its cause means even more to me.”

He also gave a shout out to his pregnant girlfriend Camila Alves. “There’s my lady,” he said, gesturing toward the newly pregnant Alves, seated near the stage to hear McConaughey’s speech about volunteering and the charity work of the Entertainment Industry Foundation.

McConaughey spoke after Jon Bon Jovi sang a three-song set and First Lady Michelle Obama gave a stirring speech announcing a new national program, United We Serve, a call to Americans across the country to volunteer in their communities anyway they can.

The actor told the crowd he was inspired to give back after the passing of his father. “As Mrs. Obama also reminded us, service is something for everybody to get involved in. Now, in my case, I was inspired to get involved in volunteering when I suddenly lost my father Jim McConaughey fours days into working on my first film. And as anyone who’s lost a parent can tell you, when a loved one like that ‘moves on’ – after grieving, one looks for some inspiration from the loss, some lesson to learn, something constructive to take through life in their absence.”

He continued, “For me, it was a few words, that became a sort of a personal mission statement: j.k livin. Where the j is for just, the k is for keep, and there’s no g on livin’, because life is a verb.”

Other speakers included California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, First Lady Maria Shriver, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and actress Kerry Washington, who presented the Daily Points of Light Award to volunteer Cindy Kerr, who founded ConKerr Cancer, which makes cheery pillow cases for sick children.

At Monday night’s L.A. premiere of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, reality star Kendra Wilkinson stepped out on a red carpet for the first time since announcing that she and football-playing fiancé Hank Baskett are expecting their first child, and the petite blonde tells OK! her diet is changing drastically.

“I never ate fast food before I was pregnant,” says the former Girl Next Door. “But every now and then I’ll get this sudden craving for, you know, like Arby’s or Taco Bell. A lot of spicy food, too!

In addition to the baby-on-board, Kendra and Hank are walking down the aisle this Saturday. But unlike most brides-to-be, she says she’s over the stress hump.

“We were stressed last week and the week before, but now it’s really out of our hands now,” Kendra explains to OK!. “It’s up to our wedding planner and everybody to get things done.”

This summer also saw the launch of Kendra’s own, self-titled reality show on E!, and she says that so far she’s very happy with the way it’s come out. “It just makes me feel so good that people are interested,” she says. “I mean, we just shoot it like a home video and we don’t look at it as a show. We look at it as a home video and we’re just happy that people watch it!”

Friends and family of Jon and Kate Gosselin are slamming the couple for revealing their split on their reality show Monday.

“We’re just so heartbroken and sad about the announcement that they made — an announcement that could be so life-shattering to a young child,” Kate’s brother, Kevin Kreider, tells RadarOnline.com. “And it was used as a teaser, used to gain ratings, without any regards for my nieces and nephews. It was really hurtful. We were really sad to see that.”

Adds their onetime neighorbod, Denis: “I do feel bad for the children. Hopefully they will be civil and everything for the kids sake. He needs to get away from her and run as fast as he can. The kids are the ones who will suffer, and that is the sad part.”

Jon’s former Wyomissing Area Junior/Senior High School classmate Dominick Fabrizio tells Usmagazine.com: “Jon thinks ‘it is a shame what the world has come to’ with the paparazzi surrounding his $1.1-million home that he would not even have without that very public attention. Now that the charade is over, maybe the remaining 30 percent of the viewers still watching will realize no one should be taking life advice from Jon or Kate. I won’t be lining up for an autographed book anytime soon.”

Critics echo similar sentiments.

Maggie, from the Gosselins Without Pity Web site, tells Us: “I cannot see how announcing your divorce on national television and continuing with the show is in any way putting your children first. I feel sorry for the family, but the parents seem very immature and selfish and far more concerned about their own personal needs than what eight little confused children require emotionally. I can’t believe TLC will keep running the show, but they will!”

Adds the Baltimore Sun’s David Zurawik: “I wonder if [viewers] feel exploited by TLC selling ads and making millions of dollars out of a show announcing a divorce that will not only leave eight kids with a shattered family — but a video record of their family coming undone that will define them for the rest of their lives. I’m done with this sick carnival side show.”

The Los Angeles Times’ Jon Caramanica sarcastically wonders if the show will be renamed Jon Plus 8 when he’s in charge, and Kate Plus 8 when she has custody.

The show will never be the same, he goes on.

“Now that the Gosselins have formally initiated divorce proceedings, never again will the show’s title trigger a sense of optimism and possibility, only a burden that was probably impossible all along,” Caramanica writes.

UPDATE: Perez Hilton has responded to GLAAD’s statement regarding his use of “vulgary antigay slurs,” telling TMZ:

“I am saddened GLAAD chose to victimize me further by criticizing me for how I non-violently dealt with a very scary situation that, unfortunately, turned violent. While I doubt I will get an apology from GLAAD, nor do I expect one, I would just hope people know how difficult it is to intellectualize a situation and think rationally when a thug disguised as a musician is screaming at your face and intimidating you. I am just very fortunate and grateful that nothing more serious happened to me.”

As collateral damage in his public squabble with will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas, blogger Perez Hilton has managed to irk the folks at the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation with his use of the F-word — no, the other F-word.

In his video rant to will.i.am posted yesterday, Perez, himself openly gay, declared, “I don’t need to respect you, and you’re a f-g. You’re gay, and stop being such a f—-t.” Not exactly the kind of language GLAAD was hoping to hear.

“These are vulgar antigay slurs that feed a climate of hatred and intolerance toward our community,” said Rashad Robinson, senior director of Media Programs at GLAAD. “For someone in our own community to use it to attack another person by saying that it is ‘The worst possible thing that thug would ever want to hear,’ is incredibly dangerous.

“It legitimizes use of a slur that is often linked to violence against our community. And it sends a message that it is OK to attempt to dehumanize people by exploiting antigay attitudes.”

GLAAD is hoping that Perez will see the error in his ways and make amends. “We have reached out to Hilton and asked him to apologize for promoting this antigay slur,” said Robinson. “And we would ask media outlets to avoid repetition of the slur in their coverage of this story.”

Sarah Jessica Parker and her husband, Matthew Broderick, have welcomed twins!

Barbara Walters announced the news on The View this morning.

According to WTRF in Ohio, which first reported the story, the baby girls were born this morning. Broderick and Parker are at the East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry with the surrogate mother, the station reports.

Broderick, 47, and Parker, 44, announced they were expecting twins in April.

“Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick are happily anticipating the birth of their twin daughters later this summer with the generous help of a surrogate,” a rep for the couple told Us. “The entire family is overjoyed.”

In May, Broderick joked to David Letterman he was “nervous even thinking about” parenting twins.

“I’m ready. You know, I’ve asked people, ‘What’s it like to have twins?’ One father said, ‘I don’t recommend it,’” quipped Broderick — currently starring in The Philanthropist on Broadway. “But the rest have been very positive.”

A rep for Parker did not return phone calls. Hospital spokeswoman Maggie Espina would not confirm the news to Usmagazine.com.

The twin girls are the second and third children for the couple, who wed in 1997.

They are also parents to James Wilkie Broderick, 6.
