Penelope Cruz Gets Food Poisoning in Cannes

Penelope Cruz was sidelined by food poisoning while in Cannes, France, on Monday.
The Oscar-winning actress, who was at the film festival to premiere her movie, Broken Embraces, was also scheduled to promote clips from her upcoming musical, Nine. She was slated to present a trailer and teaser for the film with Harvey Weinstein, but Cruz was too sick to make an appearance.
“She’s got some kind of food poisoning,” Weinstein said at a press conference. “She’s been really sick and being treated by a doctor now.”
He said that she will likely be back to full health by Tuesday, adding that “tomorrow night is her premiere for her movie, so she really wants to get better.”
He later told Usmagazine.com that “she’s a little better [than earlier today].”
A source — who said she got feverish after eating fish Sunday night — told Us that the actress was also due to host the Hollywood Domino event Monday evening but has had to pull out.
“She really wants to be there, but it’s so unlikely now,” the source said. “The priority is to get better for tomorrow night. No one wants to lose their Cannes moment.”
The source added: “She was so disappointed because she wanted to enjoy the festival. Now she’s stuck in bed.”
Cruz’s film, Nine — which costars Marion Cotillard, Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson and Fergie – will premiere in November.
