Despite Bachelor reject Melissa Rycroft‘s claims, Jason Mesnick says he never cheated on her with runner-up Molly Malaney.
Appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Friday, Mesnick says he never spoke to Malaney before the After the Final Rose show.
He says he merely took a chance by asking Malaney to be with him — in front of Rycroft — on national television. That’s why he appeared so nervous on the special.
“If I had been talking to Molly, I would’ve known that she would have waited for me,” he says. “It was one of the scariest things that I’ve had to do … I hate that it was on TV, absolutely. But I would have never known if Molly would’ve said yes, because she would have moved on. Obviously, they were considering her for the show [The Bachelorette].”
Malaney says she also was “very surprised” by Mesnick’s confession on the special.”I looked at [host Chris Harrison] and said, ‘Am I getting punk’d right now, because this is not a funny joke!’” she says. “I had so many emotions running through my mind at that moment. I didn’t know if it was real. I was confused.”
Malaney says “there were moments” where she sympathized with Melissa.”I was heart-broken by this guy, too,” she says. “So I know what she was going through, but I do give [Mesnick] a lot of credit for doing what he did. He is standing up for what is best for him. I think if there is anytime to be selfish, it’s when love is involved.”
Looking back, Mesnick says he feels bad about dumping Rycroft, his fiancee, on television.
“I regretted it every single day since that happened, and I will regret probably every day for the rest of my life,” he says. “The producers obviously really wanted me to do it on the show, but I take full responsibility for my actions.”
He adds, “I could’ve not shown up, and if I look back, I was just trying to do what I thought was right for me. If I could go back and do it again, I would not do that. There is no way I would do that. Period.”Mesnick also apologizes to Rycroft and fans.
“I made some big mistakes … but in the end, I found my true love,” he says. “I really am happy right now, and I know I hurt somebody that I never wanted to hurt, and I really regret that.”
Both Mesnick and Malaney admit the public scrutiny has been tough.
Says Malaney, “This should be the happiest time for us right now, but we’re surrounded by so much negativity. We’re just trying to stay positive and focus on what matters.”
What’s next for Mesnick and Malaney (whom he describes as his “partner”)?
“Right now, we’re just trying to adjust to being a real couple in the real world,” says Malaney, who plans to move to Seattle to be with Mesnick. “We’re just taking things at our own pace.”

Vince Vaughn is engaged.
Weeks after Us Weekly reported that the actor, 38, proposed to Canadian real estate agent Kyla Weber, her father confirmed the news Thursday in an interview with the Montreal Gazette. He declined to comment any further.
“She’s so happy and excited! They clicked from the beginning,” a pal recently told Us of the couple. “Kyla never mentions Jennifer Aniston [Vaughn's famous ex].”
Adds the source, “Vince has met Kyla’s whole family in Calgary. And she met his family in Chicago. They loved her!”

“I am in perfect health,” he tells E! exclusively. “I’m in very good shape and feeling very good.”
So what’s all this fuss about his well-being?
Fox News reported earlier today that Hef “looked far from his normally alert and healthy self” during a supposed brief appearance at Saturday’s Kandykaneland Masquerade Ball at the Playboy Mansion with new girlfriends Crystal Harris and 19-year-old twins Karissa and Kristina Shannon.
Hef said he was at the party the entire night and kept going till about 4:30 in the morning. “And then I was up in the morning, played backgammon during the afternoon with a buddy before we watched the final episode of The Girls Next Door.”
As for the claim that the split from his Girls Next Door Holly, Kendra and Bridget took a toll on him, the Energizer Bunny Hefner said he’s doing better than fine.
“If there was any kind of emotional or physical impact from that, it was back in last summer and fall,” he said. “But the recovery, thanks to the twins and to Crystal, has been really remarkable.”

Shortly after Chris Brown arrived at the courthouse for his arraignment — after being charged with two felonies in connection to his Feb. 8 altercation with Rihanna -- on Thursday, further proceedings were postponed until April 6.
The singer — wearing a gray suit with a light gray tie and matching vest — stepped out of a black SUV Escalade 3:30 p.m. PST before entering the building. His mother and brother also arrived together.
During the short session at the L.A. Superior Court, Brown did not enter a plea to the two felony charges against him. He instead signed a waiver that showed he understood that his attorney, Mark Geragos, would be appearing for him when the arraignment continues in four weeks.
Donald Etra was representing Rihanna, who did not appear at the arraignment, and he said that she asked him to attend on her behalf.
“The victim is entitled to be represented at all proceedings,” he said.
The court commissioner, Kristi Loustau, offered a “Level 1″ protective order for Rihanna, which is the lowest level of a stay-away order for the victim.
“You are not to annoy, harass, molest or use any form of violence against anyone,” Loustau told Brown during the session.
Although Etra said that Rihanna requested no form of a restraining order against Brown, he added: “This is more than efficient to protect her in this case.”
Brown, who was visibly somber during the arraignment, only said a few words, including “Yes, your honor.”
After the arraignment, Etra said that Rihanna “wanted to convey her appreciation to the friends, followers and family” that have supported her. When asked about the couple’s reconciliation, Etra said that “this is not the time to discuss that.”
Geragos and the district attorney’s office did not comment.
Brown is facing assault by means likely to create great bodily injury and criminal threats. He has been free on $50,000 bail since his arrest. If convicted, he faces four years and eight months in state prison.
Stan Goldman, a professor of law at Loyola University said that Brown looked “slightly dazed.”
Although Geragos asked his former professor to attend, Goldman said that he is not speaking for the attorney.
“[There is] nothing I would correct him on if I was his counsel,” he said of Brown’s presence at the proceedings.
He also said that because Rihanna did not request a stay-away order, “it does suggest she doesn’t want him to stay away.” He said that if she refuses to testify, the case will likely not go to trial.
