Less than three weeks after his split from Jennifer Aniston, John Mayer had love on his mind at a charity bash on Thursday night.

The singer debuted a new song called “Half of My Heart” that he said he finished writing just hours before the show. The lyrics included the lines: “Half of my heart is a shotgun wedding to a bride with a newspaper ring/Half of my heart is the part of a man who knows he’s never really loved a thing.”

After the show — which also included performances by Gavin Rossdale and Jordin Sparks — John reflected on the evening in a Twitter post, saying: “That felt great to play again. ‘Half Of My Heart’ felt pretty good. Gonna tweak it a bit.”

John didn’t share the inspiration behind the song, but it does come at an interesting time as he ended his year-long relationship with Jennifer earlier this month — just weeks after their much-publicized coming out appearance at the Oscars.

Days after their split was announced, he also took to Twitter, declaring: “This heart didn’t come with instructions.”

Thursday’s event, benefiting VH1 Save The Music Foundation, was held aboard a cruise ship at the Port of Los Angeles pier in San Pedro, Calif. On Friday, John set sail on his second annual Mayercraft Carrier tour — a five-day cruise from Los Angeles to Cabo San Lucas during which he and several other musical guests perform.

Star has learned the actress is seriously considering donating thousands of dollars to the overwhelmed 33-year-old single mom, whose brood includes 2-month-old octuplets.

“Angelina is worried about the best interests of the kids,” explains a source. “As a mom of six, she knows how chaotic and costly raising a big family can be.”

And while the money would no doubt help Nadya pay for everything from clothes to schooling, Angelina, 33, does have some misgivings about the gift, notes the source.

“She doesn’t necessarily approve of Nadya, and she doesn’t want to turn the situation into even more of a circus.”

A judge sentenced rapper T.I. to one year and a day behind bars on federal weapons charges on Friday.

The 28-year-old rapper, whose real name is Clifford Harris, apologized at the hearing.

“Today I would like to say thank you to some, and apologize to all,” the rapper told U.S. District Judge Charles Pannell Jr. at sentencing.

Harris pleaded guilty last March after he was arrested in 2007, attempting to buy unregistered machine guns and silencers. The arrest on Oct. 13 of that year occurred blocks from where he was to headline the BET Hip-Hop Awards in Atlanta hours later.

He will have between 30 and 60 days to report to prison. Harris already has completed about 1,000 hours of community service and has warned youths about the pitfalls of guns, drugs, violence. He will need to complete 470 additional hours.

He had faced a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each count, until he cut a deal and pleaded guilty last March to the federal weapons charge and was sentenced to one year and a day in prison.

Harris initially pleaded not guilty and was released on a $3 million bond before being placed under house arrest. (more…)
