Miley Cyrus Apologizes for Controversial Photos
Miley Cyrus is finally speaking out on controversial photos that show her using her fingers to make her eyes slant (that’s her, third from the left), which is considered degrading to Asian people. She took to her website to apologize.
I’ve also been told there are some people upset about some pictures taken of me with friends making goofy faces! Well, I’m sorry if those people looked at those pics and took them wrong and out of context!
In NO way was I making fun of any ethnicity! I was simply making a goofy face. When did that become newsworthy? It seems someone is trying to make something out of nothing to me. If that would of [sic] been anyone else, it would of been overlooked! I definitely feel like the press is trying to make me out as the new ‘BAD GIRL’!
I feel like now that Britney is back on top of her game again, they need someone to pick on! Lucky me! haha Anyway, I just wanted to let you guys know what is on my heart. You guys know me and have been by my side every step of the way!
You guys know my heart and know the most important things to me are my friends, family, fans, and GOD! In NO WAY do I want to disappoint any of you! But, when I have made mistakes in the past, I feel like I’ve owned up to them and apologized.
I really wish everyone would stop focusing on my personal life and get back to focusing on what I love! Music and Acting! Hopefully, I will be touring again this fall! Yayy! =] It will be a nice change to be back out on the road again!

This isn’t the first time Cyrus has been slammed for photos.
In April 2008, she was criticized by parenting groups after pictures surfaced of her posing in green bra. A few months later, she apologized after posing semi-nude in Vanity Fair.

not even a little offensive. There is an asian person in the photo with her. People are making something out of nothing. But I have to wonder who sold out and sold these pictures to the media.

I think the whole thing is blown out of proportion. When I was younger I would do the same thing with my friends and in no way was it racially charged. Everyone always screams racism when they see something they don’t like, it is pathetic…this was a picture with her friends, everyone is goofing off in the picture…bunny ears and goofy faces and what not. People need to get over it and find something else to gripe about.

She is 15. Aren’t you glad you’re not remembered for what you did at 15? I hung out with alot of Asians when I was 15, and I’m sure I did and said things alot worse looking than that pic. She’s extremely irritating for a famous person (that may be a hereditary problem), but she’s 15.

They are high as kites in that photo. Stoned off their collective asses – every one of them, even Miley. The only smart thing they did was keep the bong out of the photo.

it was a stupid thing to do. i grow tired of celebrities getting caught this way (a la michael phelps)…she should know the whole world is watching.

To those of you who said they are high, do u know for a fact that they are all high? Just because they’re all making those faces doesn’t mean they’re all high. When I was a teenager we use to goof around and take pics of us being silly and we weren’t smoking, drinking, or doing drugs! We were just naturally high from having fun and being silly!! If I were a stranger seeing my friends and me being that goofy I would probably think the same thing if I didn’t know any better! As far as them being racist, I don’t think they meant it to hurt anyone’s feelings, they were just goofing around.
If they were racist why would they have a friend who is Asian? I think they’re just playing around.

I think they should get off of her back. Yes that is offensive and she could be racist but I don’t think she really knew what she was doing in that picture. I think that She was either HIGH as a Kite or Drunk as Hell or a bit of both. Look at the picture of the guy having wine in his hand she probably was drinking too.

No one can say they understand what it feels like to be discrimminated against until it happens to them. I do can’t say that I know what the African American experience was like nor can I say that I know what the Jewish American or Hispanic experience was like but I can say say that I know what it feels like when someone makes slant-eyed gestures or makes a stereotype about Asians because I have experienced kids making faces at me and calling me names. It is never goofy or good-natured fun. It was always mean-spirited and racist. Bottom line, it’s ignorant to make gestures that generalized an ethnic group’s physical characteristics. Miley Cyrus is a pop culture icon for a lot of young people and the adults who are responsible for her PR should take action to put another spin on her message that it’s OK to make fun of Asians.

Haha!! They all really do look messed up on something!! The funny thing is that everyone is complaining about them making fun of Asian people..What about the Asian guy, his eyes are totally like being forced to be as wide open as posssible!! So, is he making fun of white people? Or wait, black people or Mexicans…??? Take your pick if you\\\’re not Asian it could be you he is slamming..Give me a break. They were making fun of him and he was making fun of them..Who cares!! Get a life…We should be more worried about the poor girl and how she isn\\\’t really getting to be a kid!!!!
