Have any of you seen Doubt?

I went and saw Doubt last night, and it’s definitely the kind of movie you need to talk about afterwards. No one I know has seen it, so you guys are going to have to talk to me about it!
I absolutely loved it. Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman give unbelievably good performances. Meryl Streep is in a league of her own. She is amazing!
I was really worried that this movie would be too depressing. Considering the subject matter (priest vs. alter boy) it could have been hard to watch. But it really wasn’t. It was so good…and I have so many questions! If you’ve seen it, please join me after the jump – I have a question for you!
HERE

Did he do it!? What do you think? I think he did do it…that was my first impression. Especially since at the end, the blond boy smiled when the Father was saying his goodbyes.
But I’ve been reading online – and there have been some very good theories about him not doing it. People have said that it is comparable to a police interrogation – and maybe the confession was under duress? Since the nun lied about his previous church, maybe he was confused – and thought he had done something wrong?
Maybe the Father knew that the nun wasn’t going to give up no matter what?
I honestly don’t know what I think anymore. Did he do it? What do you think!?

Ok this totally doesn’t answer your question but I don’t think it’s about did he do or didn’t he do it. It’s about people convincing others of something when they themselves don’t know the truth & don’t have proof – leaving room for doubts. Did the movie really disclose enough information for us to make a verdict?? Therefore, the audience comes to their own conclusions, like Meryl Streeps’s character without proof, only doubts. I had this same conversation with my parents. They were like if he didn’t do it then why did he leave but I feel like with that kind of accusation, it doesn’t matter if he did or didn’t do what they say because that stigma is so heavy to bear that he had to leave.

An innocent man, especially a man standing firmly on the Word of God does not flee, regardless of the heat. There were so many sub-plots that were fascinating, I could have watched 2 hours on each of those story lines. A good movie that indeed addressed doubts and yet reaffirmed my faith.

What was interesting was in the play, when I left I had many more doubts. After seeing the play, I honestly did no know if he did it or if he didn’t do it. But, after seeing the film, I thought that father flynn did do it. I thought that it was interesting that the play and then the movie version of the play could leave two completely different impressions.

I absolutely think he did it. There were definitely times that made me question… but it was Meryl Streep’s faith in what she felt, that made me believe he did it. Besides, his elaborate story of ‘what happened & why’- I mean, c’mon… And the mother of the child, more or less sacrificing her son to him… It was for sure a movie of doubts, everyone’s got them… but it was a movie of faith, moreover. Great flick.

I think he had an inappropriate relationship and probably, yes, something WOULD have happened had it been allowed to continue…but I don’t think it was physical at the point Fr Flynn left.
Meryl Streep was great, as well all the actors in this film but I didn’t LOVE it. It was entertaining and even had humorous parts but it wasn’t my favorite film.
