I’m dying to know…

Did any of you see “Seven Pounds” over the weekend? I’m DYING to know the ending, and I don’t care if you ruin the surprise. I saw Will Smith on Oprah about a month ago – and they were talking about how “top secret” the ending of the movie is.
(One thing I hate more than anything – is when a movie is promoted as having a “shocking ending” or a “surprise ending”. It ruins it for me! Can’t they just let us be totally surprised? If I know there’s some big secret, then I’m going to try and figure out what it is! If you tell us the end is “shocking” then is it really going to be shocking? Okay, I’m done venting.)
On Oprah, they talked very little about the movie – so it wouldn’t spoil it for anyone, and showed a long trailer. After watching the trailer, I decided I had the entire movie figured out. And it irritates me. So I want to know if I’m right. Will someone tell me the ending?
I’m putting my guess after the jump…don’t look if you don’t want to be spoiled!

What I think happens?
I think Will Smith is involved in some sort of accident that leaves someone – or multiple people dead (maybe his wife? his kids?). After this he goes into a deep depression, and feels the only way to atone what he’s done is to save some one else. Save SEVEN other people. So what he does is finds seven people who are dying – or need a transplant of sorts. He then plans on killing himself – and donating his organs to these seven people in order to save their lives.
He plans on giving his heart to Rosario Dawson – and then he falls in love with her. Making the ending ever so poignant when he dies and literally gives his heart to her.
Am I right? What really happens!
Tell me!

Thats the movie in a nut shell. I saw it this weekend and I did my absolute BEST to not cry throughout the entire thing. EXCELLENT movie, very moving!

the movie was great!

Damnit, I knew I was right!! I hate it! I would have liked to have seen the movie, and have been surprised. But nooooooooooooooo they had to go and make me figure it out!
Was it good? I heard it sucked! Got really bad reviews!
Tell me more!

I haven’t seen it yet and figured it out from the long trailer just like you. It really takes away from the movie.

Yeppers, that’s it in a nutshell.

Absolutely powerful and amazing movie.
I’ve never uncontrollably sobbed in a movie theater before. PLUS I turned to my boyfriend at the end, and he was crying too (which is a never happen type of thing)!!!
Definitely not a movie I could watch again anytime soon – but only because of how intense it was.
I’d tell the ending – but I really don’t want to ruin it for anyone who doesn’t want to know. It’s definitely a good mystery right up until the end.

How can it be a “good mystery” if half of us guessed the ending just from the trailer!?
I’m so pissed it’s that easy to figure out!

I read he puts a jellyfish in the tub with him to kill himself. It sounds kind of dumb to me.
December 22nd, 2008 at 4:45 pm
Jellyfish!? Are you serious? Now I have to know… if that’s real, then that is so stupid.
December 22nd, 2008 at 5:16 pm
its called 7 pounds because the heart weighs 7 pounds
December 22nd, 2008 at 5:55 pm
I just watched the ending of the movie online for you. There is a jellyfish involved.
December 22nd, 2008 at 8:19 pm
Katie – if your heart weighs 7 pounds, then you better get your ass to the doctor.
I would think that’s common sense, but I guess not.

lol.

I wasn’t horrible but not great either. I was very excited because it was advertised to be so shocking and surprising. I didn’t have it figured out from the trailer but did about 15 minutes into the movie. Kinda ruined it for me.

Will someone tell me the ending? Is it really jellyfish?
December 23rd, 2008 at 8:41 am
It’s called Seven Pounds as in “Take your seven pounds of flesh”. Kind of an enigmatic title, but I suppose it’s named that way because he makes it his lifes purpose to hack off as many pieces of his body as possible to give to other people, as a way to atone for the accident that killed his wife and 6 others…

This has a whiff of 21 Grams (Naomi Watts & Sean Penn) about it.. Both with weight as a title. Weird

Jocelyn, I watched the suicide scene for you online and yes it is a jellyfish. Read a few comment lines about yours.

He does kill himself with a jellyfish…the deadliest creature in the world (it’s some weird kind of jellyfish) he gets in the bath tub with ice cubes, I guess to kind of numb the pain and then he releases it. It was a very intense movie and I wouldn’t watch it again. I know someone who has committed suicide and it was just too much for me.

really you should watch it. if u seen pursuit of happiness, its along the lines of it and its really good
December 30th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
Christina, the ice cubes are not to numb the pain, they are to help preserve his body and protect his organs until he is found so they are still transplantable.

I didn’t think the ending was surprising at all, as I saw it coming from a mile away. It didn’t change the fact that I found the movie very effective. It’s a mystery to the characters in the film, but since you see Will Smith throughout it’s easy to see what he’s planning from the start. It is a good film and definitely worth seeing, and critics can suck on it. They lauded so many average movies last year and now they’re making up for it by ripping movies that are well done (Seven Pounds, Changeling, etc.).
