Twilight Star to Play Rocker Joan Jett

Twilight’s Kristen Stewart is ready to rock for her next movie role.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, she has signed on to play Joan Jett in a biopic about the rocker’s 1970s all-girl band, The Runaways. (Jett will also serve as an executive producer.)
The Runaways — comprised of guitarists Jett and Lita Ford, drummer Sandy West, singer-keyboardist Cherie Currie and bassist Jackie Fox — were one of the first successful all-girl hard rock bands.
Before disbanding over management and money issues, they churned out hits like “Cherry Bomb.”
The movie will follow Jett and Currie as teenagers “to their dissolution and disillusionment,” according to The Reporter.
Production is set to begin next year, but filming will have to revolve around Stewart’s commitments to the two upcoming Twilight sequels.
The first, New Moon, is expected to shoot sometime in early 2009.
Twilight director Catherine Hardwickie – who has yet to formally sign on to film the sequels – recently told MTV News that New Moon is aiming to be “finished by the end of 2009, if not the beginning of 2010; cameras could be rolling in about five months.”
She added, “We spent about a year and three months getting [Twilight] ready, between writing the script and casting. We could probably do things a little bit faster this time, but who knows? It depends. And sometimes you can do things really fast. You can get two editors on, and you can just zip through.”
Since its Nov. 21 opening, Twilight has earned more than $120 million.
