My Twilight Review! AND – the movie made $35 Million in the opening day!!!

So Erin, Trista and I went and saw Twilight yesterday afternoon. I have been talking about this movie for ages, and have been eagerly anticipating the premiere! The reviews I read had me a little nervous that I wouldn’t like the movie, but I was happy to find out that wasn’t the case at all. I LOVED it. I absolutely LOVED it. There were definitely some cheesy parts – but overall, I was really pleased.
I thought that the casting was perfect. I thought Kristen Stewart was perfectly cast as Bella, and Robert Pattinson was an unbelievably great (and HOT) Edward. I felt the chemistry between the two of them was so believable, I could feel the sexual tension coming off the screen.
Obviously there was a lot that didn’t make it to the movie, but when you’re dealing with a 500+ page book, how can you capture everything? I thought the director did an excellent job of representing the most important – key moments. I honestly wish the movie was 3 hours, not 2. Who am I kidding, I would have sat there for 6 hours, if it were possible.
I loved the movie so much. I am such a HUGE fan of the books, I think it would haven taken a lot for me to hate the movie.
If I were to nit-pick anything, find something I didn’t like about the movie, I would say that I hope the 2nd movie, New Moon is directed by someone else. I liked this movie, but I do think it could have been MUCH better. There were several very cheesy – slow motion moves, and I thought the movie could have done without those. I think if they gave the 2nd movie so someone else – it would be absolutely amazing. But that’s just my opinion.
Oh, and I hated the musical score – I felt like I was watching Karate Kid from the 80’s or something. A lot of the music was bad…
Bottom line: If you read the books, I think you’ll like the movie. I love the books so much, it was nice to put faces to all the names. I thought the casting was brilliant. Now, if you didn’t read the books, I’m not so sure how much you would like it… would it feel the same without the connection to the characters? I’m really interested to hear from you guys – if you saw the movie, and didn’t read the books. What did you think?
PS: Did you know the movie was filmed right where I live!! It was mostly shot in the Portland, Oregon area… so that was a nice touch. If there is a #2 filmed here again, I’m going to become a super stalker and hunt them all down.
Twilight’s Monster $35 Mil Debut
Bigger than the latest Indiana Jones. Bigger than the biggest James Bond. That’s how big Twilight was yesterday.
The $37 million vampire flick, expected to have a killer opening day, had a monster opening day, grossing an estimated $35 million, Exhibitor Relations reported. One-fifth of that gross, or $7 million, came from Friday midnight screenings.
The box-office tracking firm said a $75 million Friday-Sunday gross was now a possibility. Going into Friday, $60 million was considered the movie’s best-case scenario.
When the counting’s done, Twilight’s Friday take may rank as the 14th or 15th biggest opener of all time, having surpassed the debuts of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull ($25 million) and Quantum of Solace ($27 million), to name two recent blockbusters.
Bolt, the animated talking-dog movie, was curbed by Twilight, grossing $7 million on Friday, Exhibitor Relations said.

I like the books, but the movie was so bad…

I liked the book more. I thought they casted Bella and Edward perfectly. The movie wasn’t bad, but it seemed like a “made for tv” movie. I think the next movie will be better when they’ll have a bigger budget…can’t wait to see the books come to life. I love EDWARD!

I totally agree…I would have sat through at least 3 hours to have more character development – it was just too fast! I loved the greyish tone to the whole movie though, and thought the setting and casting was perfect. With a bigger budget – the next movies will be AMAZING! I must disagree on the music though – I bought the soundtrack and love almost every song on the CD.

I loved the book & I def. enjoyed the movie. I am in love with Rob Pattinson, thought he did a fantastic job finding Edward’s tortured soul. I however, did not like Kristen Stewart as Bella. She just bothered me for some reason, didn’t seem as into it…I don’t know. I thought Alexis Blediel (sp?) would have been a much better Bella. She is just a better actress. I also think someone else should direct New Moon…totally agree with you on that one.
And Portlan is absolutely gorgeous. I am dying to go there now!

The movie reminded me of cheesy eighties movies. Like it was good but tacky looking if ya know what I mean? I thought most of the casting was bangin but i think the director never read any of the book. either that or she cant direct herself out of a bag. The rosalie girl was not gorgeous and it was weird her having dark roots? also it seemed like she was jealous of bella because she loved edward herself? weird.

I agree that Rosalie was a bad casting choice. She’s not at all what I had pictured as the beautiful character in the book.

I really liked it. I have read the book and obviously the book is better. You normally dont find a movie better than a book. There were some cheesy parts in it but oh well. I think the next 3 will get better since they didnt expect the movie to be so big in the first place. I will def. buy the movie when it comes out of dvd. OHHH and the baseball scene was AWESOME!!!

well i don’t read the books, but i think it’s a good movie,it have good ideas and reaaaaally good effects i think…though I don’t like so much Robert Pattinson for me he’s noooot hot at all!!! I think there are tons of young actors waay much handsome but anymway I guess there are diferent likes..but I like it it’s good!!!

I enjoyed the movie so much that when I go to Las Vegas with my mother, we might just see it again xD if I had to rate it on stars I’d give it a 4 out of 5. The movie made me really happy but there were some parts, like the scene in the book that Edward sings Bella her lullaby to put her to sleep (or maybe is that in New Moon?) but other than that, I loved all things in the movie ESPECIALLY the Baseball scene!

I AGREE with every word you said! I think i might just read the book again!

I have read all 4 books, and went to see the movie last night. I have to say that I REALLY enjoyed it. I thought Kristen and Robert were great as Bella and Edward. I thought Jasper was kinda weird acting. He reminded me SO much of Edward Scissorhands. I thought Jacob was a cutie, but I can’t see him being as big as he is portrayed in the books. lol. All in all, I loved the books, liked the soundtrack, and loved the movie. I can’t wait to get it on DVD to watch over and over. lol.
