The morning after: How do you feel?

obama-g.jpg

Barack Obama won!

I have to say, I’m pretty happy that Obama won.  And by won – I mean KILLED John McCain.  I think as Americans we have sent a clear message to government – we are ready for a change!

Even for those of you that are McCain supporters – you have to agree that last night was a great historical moment.  My boys stayed up late, and watched a bit of the news with me.  My oldest said “why is everyone crying?” and I said – “because this is a moment in history that will never be forgotten.” I told them they will probably never forget this election – even if they are young.

How are you feeling about things this morning?

i’m overwhelmed with joy and happiness, i still can not belive it, it’s like a movie, i can’t stop crying because this is historical moment not only for us as american but for the world, i hope this bring more peace into our world… GOD Bless America and the WORLD!!!

  2. Nicole Says:

I feel like the majority of americans got the wool pulled over their eyes. For my family and I its a sad day. It has nothing to do with race, more for the lives that will be lost when he signs the FOCA. (freedom of choice act for those who dont know)

  3. EvinNRobsMom Says:

He’s who I voted for-so I’m very happy. It feels good to be part of the change that we need.
My kids asked me the exact same question and I told them that it was something that many people (all nationalities) had been waiting for, for a very long time. That it’s a historical moment for our country.
    Go Obama!!

  4. Dr. H Says:

    Nauseous….

  5. Sierra Says:

I am so excited!! It is definitely time for a lot of changes. I’m a Canadian, and I don’t mean to speak for all Canadians when I say this, but I seriously don’t know a single person here who was rooting for McCain/Palin.

Obama was clearly the right choice, and he has successfully made the history books! McCain’s speech was powerful and he has my utmost respect, he was not a sore loser at all.

We’re having a party in our politics lecture today to celebrate the results (and our renowned faith in the American people.. haha). Too bad no one here got as excited as this for our own elections (last month).

  6. Kate Says:

I am so relieved that he won. I believe that the lives of all American’s will be better for him. As for FOCA, I am relieved and thrilled that my right to control my own body will be solidified.

  7. Sierra Says:

Nicole, I’m not sure why any woman would speak against being able to control what happens to her body. I for one am proud of Obama for signing FOCA.

  8. Andrea Says:

Change is good, and i’m sure he ll make a good president, but i do not support indiscriminate sex that leads to abortion!

  9. COCKTAILTIME Says:

FUCK OSAMA OBAMA! THIS IS VERY DISAPPOINTING DAY FOR ME. I FEEL MOST AMERICANS VOTED JUST BECAUSE HE WAS BLACK. A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT WERE INTERVIEWED DIDNT HAVE A FUCKING CLUE WHAT HE STOOD FOR, MOSTLY BLACKS! IN AN INTERVIEW IN JERSEY ALL BLACKS THAT WERE QUESTIONED ABOUT WHO THEY WERE VOTING FOR SAID OBAMA! IN THE QUESTIONING THEY WERE ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT McCAINS VIEWS BUT TOLD THEY WERE OBAMAS AND THEY ALL BACKED IT!!!! GOES TO SHOW YOU THAT IGNORANT ASSHOLES WERE VOTING ONLY ON HIS COLOR!!!!!!!!!!!! SAD DAY FOR AMERICA, VERY SAD. WE ARE ALL SCREWED. CONGRATS IDIOTS!

  10. Anon Says:

Andrea, very few people would support indiscriminate sex. There are many, many scenarios that can lead to an unplanned pregnancy and subsequent abortion.

  11. Respectful Says:

It’s pretty distasteful to say he “killed’ John McCain. He is a veteran who got TORTURED for this country, in case anyone has forgotten, and would have made an excellent president. People who just fall over backwards like a bunch of groupies because Obama can talk pretty will hopefully wake up from their stupor when they see what they’ve done to themselves.

  12. anne Says:

cocktailtime: your comment is very immature, and incorrect, you should think before writing. today, take time to think also how it’s fantastic for all the black people and minorities; all they went trough. no “fuck o.” here, please. it’s not the place, the time and, in fact, never will be if you’re thinking while writing.

  13. Jocelyn Says:

    Respectful…

Do you think I meant that Obama literally “killed” McCain? C’mon now – I wasn’t being serious. Yikes.

  14. Jocelyn Says:

And just for the record, I am pro-life. I really had to sit down and weigh all of the issues out. While I am pro-life, abortion wasn’t the only thing I had to consider this election. There were many factors.

  15. erin Says:

Obama wasn’t my first choice but I am optimistic that he will be a catalyst for positive change in our country.

Though I am very upset about his views on abortion and his plan to sign the FOCA bill. I think it speaks volumes of our country that we place little to no value to children before they leave the womb. Hurting an animal and wearing fur is criminal but partial birth abortion is ok?

    http://www.nrlc.org/ABORTION/pba/index.html

  16. Sierra Says:

Cocktailtime… if you think that black voters only voted for Obama because of his colour, think of all the racists who voted against him BECAUSE of his colour. It is a two-way stream, most definitely.

Besides, the population of African Americans in the US is less than 15%, I’m sure he must have had the support of others based on the turnout numbers -.-

Some people seriously need to think before they speak.

And comparing your president to Osama? Yea, that makes sense, their names sound alike so they must be the same person and share the same ideologies.

  17. Anonymous Says:

Not happy at all. I think it’s a HUGE mistake.

But, unrelated to that, I’m strongly against abortion anyway and I think the women who want the right the choose aren’t even slightly aware of what they are doing. Choose adoption, never abortion.

I ended up with an accidental pregnancy (not indiscriminate sex, but with someone I was with for five years who demanded an abortion, and then left) With all the pressure from my own family and his, I was told to have an abortion. Easy route, yeah. But I realized it was SOMEONE else’s whole life, their whole future. Their right to wake up each day, to grow up and to have a LIFE. I now have a beautiful 8 yr old daughter and it seriously SICKENS me to even think that (for about five seconds) I once considered (under OTHER peoples pressures) doing that to her.

  18. weird Says:

My cousin said that some concerts he went to with college friends wouldn’t even let you in if, (when they asked you who you were voting for) you didn’t say Obama. There was a lot of intimidation going on and a lot of the votes for Obama were gained that way.

Can’t wait to see what happens now :o (

I think it’s been planned a long time and is Bin Ladin’s way in the back door. Well all see.

  19. Sierra Says:

“I think it’s been planned a long time and is Bin Ladin’s way in the back door. Well all see.”

I can’t help but think you people are serious… seriously ignorant and misinformed x_X

  20. mandy Says:

Dr. H, i couldn’t have said it better!!

  21. RacerX Says:

I think John McCain would have made a better president. I also agree with the fact that most black people voted for Obama because he is black, not because of his qualifications. When you have ignorant people saying they are glad he won because now their ‘mortgages will be paid,’ you know a big mistake has been made. I think a LOT of people thought by voting for him they were going to automatically be free of debt, responsibilities, etc. How ridiculous. He is a person, not a god. But people worship him like he is one. A lot of people got sucked into another cult. Sad.

  22. Me Says:

Not good. :( Our country is about to go further downhill than it already is.

  23. Levada Says:

FOCA is one of the best things that could happen for a woman. No man has the right to tell her what to do with her own body. There’s more than one senario that can lead to an unplanned pregnancy. What about rape? Incest?

I am extremley happy with the choice America has made and I cannot wait to see the changes.

  24. Randomly on this blog Says:

    Dr. H and CocktailTime,

Possibly the most ignorant comments I’ve heard in awhile. Can I ask a question? What is WRONG with blacks voting for Obama because he’s black? At least they voted, something that’s only been a full right since 1965! What about people who didn’t vote for Obama because he was black? Think of a Ohio couple on Halloween that had a stuffed Obama hanging from a noose in their yard…fine, that’s funny because someone else had a Palin in Virginia…but when asked why they decided to do it, they replied, “because we are racist.” So if people didn’t vote on the basis of race, other people can vote because of race!

And in regards to your Obama Osama comments…come on! Maybe you should take a look at the transcript of Colin Powell’s most recent speech. Even if Obama was a Muslim, does that relegate him and make him less capable of running this country? I’d like to know what the fuck you do for a living, Mr. all-fucking-american! You are ignorant and the exact definition of how this country has not changed. This is a historic moment, relish in the unity that hasn’t been felt among many Americans since fucking Vietnam.

  25. Casey Says:

Although I would never have an abortion, what right do I have to decide what other women choose to do with their own bodies? Those people who feel abortion is wrong, maybe it is. But really, what right do YOU have to decide for ME?

  26. EvinNRobsMom Says:

Thank you Casey. I was thinking the same thing. :)

  27. Jess Says:

Wow, the ignorance on this page is astounding. If any of you racists who think Obama was elected based on being black, take a long hard look at our history as a country and as a people. Obama was elected for his ability to bring people together, his vision, and his intelligence. Open your minds and hearts to the possibility that he could be a step forward for this country in so many ways and will lead and inspire us to participate in the democracy that has made our country so unique and respected. Abortion is the last thing on most of our minds this year, and it is really negligible when it comes to how Obama is going to lead, and the peace that he has the ability to restore in the world. The whole world is watching us right now, so why don’t you all make some comments worth reading and take a look at how ignorant you wound when you make stereotypical blanket statements discounting why Obama won the votes of 53% of the American people.

  28. Ruthie Says:

So if you don’t support Obama you are a racist? …um, talk about needing to think before you write. NOT FAIR.
I’ve heard some pretty racist things from BOTH sides.

As to the person who said that rape and incest account for unplanned pregnancy, I remember hearing a statistic that only 15% or less of today’s abortions are due to these factors.

  29. Nicole Says:

Does the unborn child, who is 25 weeks along and could live outside of their mothers womb, deserve to be literally sucked out of a uterus and placed on a shelf to die. Of all the senators who voted for a bill to allow infantcide, Obama was the ONLY ONE who voted for it. Three times. To kill babies so their mothers quote “wouldnt be punished”. That is an Obama quote.

I have three kids, my first of whom was unplanned and we werent married…and I have never, ever thought he was a punishment.

And while I will agree that abortion isnt the only factore to consider when choosing your vote, I can imagine living in a world where the majority of people dont value a life at its most precious state. It shouldnt be my “right” to take a life.

  30. Nicole Says:

Meant to say “I cant” imagine…

  31. Jess Says:

I did not say if you don’t support Obama you are a racist, i said that if you think that the only reason 53% of the country voted for him is because he is black is an ignorant statement, and very closed minded.

  32. Bugsmama1966 Says:

I am absolutely sickened by his election. I don’t care about the color of his skin. It is completely irrelevant. His policies absolutely scare me to death. McCain was not my first choice either, but he is at least experienced. A little over a hundred days in a national office does not qualify you to run the greatest nation in the free world. Also, doesn’t the fact that countries like Iran and Iraq celebrating his victory make you a little concerned about our future. It is as if they were waiting for this because they know they can now come into our country, do whatever they want and there will be no consequences. I will do as God has said and support our leader because God has put him there to teach us some kind of lesson (probably that we need to turn our attention back to Him as we as a country and individuals have really strayed from God’s path.) That does not mean I have to be happy with the direction we have put ourselves in.

  33. Anonymous Says:

“It shouldnt be my “right” to take a life.”

    Well said, Nicole!

I’m glad to see there’s at least one person with good morals and a working heart in here.

  34. Nos Says:

I am sickened that he is going to be the next President! This is a sad time in America right now…well atleast it is for anyone with a functioning brain in their head.

  35. Ellie Says:

Change? Is communism a change that you want? Because that is what this man stands for. The people who voted for this man are a bunch of followers!

  36. WTF? Says:

Fuck this porch monkey and his monkey faced wife and his snotty little monkey children! FUCK NOBAMA

  37. gdafgv Says:

    NIGGER!!!!

  38. Jo Says:

CHOICE one!!! YOU rock Obama! WTG!!!
Love it Love it Love it.. and I dont even live in the damn country!!!

  39. Kevin Says:

YEAHHHH Obama, I say America needs the change. Its about time too Black/White/Red or Green, I dont give 2 shits what some of you other rednecks say. I am a WHITE American and Im proud to have Obama as the next president.

  40. MMD Says:

Anonymous: Good for you for not bowing to peer pressure and following your own voice. I myself was on birth control and got pregnant (yes, it can happen!!) and I made the choice to terminate the pregnancy and while I don’t wish to be in that position again, I don’t regret that choice. It was the right one for me and my circumstances. I wouldn’t have been able to go back to school or care for my mother who got cancer later that year. That’s why I respect the singularly PERSONAL choice having a child, or not is. If there is any woman out there…follow your gut, your heart. It’s your choice and society supports you regardless!

  41. courteney Says:

although I did not vote for obama, we are all Americans need to support the president regardless who holds office. i do not agree with any of obama’s policies, but i am going to give him a chance. i truly hope that no future president will not be as mistreated as President Bush is by the media.
