Britney Spears’ drivers license trial still idling
Britney Spears can continue to keep her distance from the courthouse for now.
The popster’s trial on a year-old misdemeanor charge of driving with an invalid license has again been pushed back, this time to Sept. 8. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for Sept. 2.
A lawyer for Spears has characterized the case, stemming from the singer’s 2007 run-in with a parked car while only toting a Louisiana driver’s license, as another instance of a public figure being punished for her fame.
“Anyone can see this is not the case of the century. The fact is that Britney is being treated differently,” attorney Michael Flanagan told E! News in March. “This should be just treated as a fix-it ticket or an infraction.”
Court dates pertaining to this case have been shuffled multiple times this year, with her legal camp using her early-’08 mental-health troubles to argue that she couldn’t quite grasp the repercussions of her situation.
