Nick Jonas falls ill during a Jonas Brothers concert

Nick Jonas

The Jonas Brothers had to stall a live performance on Saturday, when diabetic Nick Jonas fell ill onstage.

Since being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2005, Nick has had to monitor his blood sugar levels at regular intervals, and stop for treatment if they fall too low – even if it’s in the middle of a concert.

Nick and his bandmate brothers Joe and Kevin are even wired up with microphones so they can chat with each other during gigs – allowing the 15-year-old to tip them off when his insulin levels drop and he starts feeling weak.

And his brothers have a special technique to distract fans while Nick dashes off for an insulin shot.

Joe had to call on Plan B at a Saratoga Springs concert at the weekend, when his brother needed medical assistance.

He explains, “I chatted with the audience and kept reading all the signs people were holding up.”

Nick adds, “I was only bad for, like, a minute, but Joe kept talking and talking for, like, five minutes.”

The onstage scare was another reminder of just how difficult life can be for the young Jonas sibling.

Dad Kevin Sr. recently spoke of Nick’s daily battle with diabetes, telling Rolling Stone magazine, “I can’t tell you how frustrating it is to hear people belittle diabetes because it’s maintainable. They’ve never had to sit on a bus when a pump didn’t work and a second pump didn’t work… and a third didn’t, and he had to give himself a shot when we’re driving down a highway. Everybody on our team is on full alert, watching every move Nick makes on that stage every single night of his life.”

This article is misinforming those who aren’t aware of type 1 diabetes. First of all, when your insulin drops, as in this case, you don’t give yourself an insulin shot, you must ingest something that will elevate your sugar level back to normal. And it’s highly unlikely that 3 pumps in a row would malfunction. my hubby’s been a type 1 for 17 years

I hope he was alright and I wonder how the other fans felt cause I watched Livn’ The Dream and felt really sad it almost wanted to make me cry.
