Kate Hudson has beat off fierce competition to land a leading role in the big screen version of hit Broadway musical Nine.

The Fool’s Gold beauty beat rival actresses Sienna Miller and Anne Hathaway to win the role of fashion journalist Stephanie.

Hudson joins a host of Hollywood heavyweights, with Oscar winners Daniel Day-Lewis, Marion Cotillard, Nicole Kidman and Judi Dench all taking starring roles in the movie.
