Jessica Simpson: I’m sticking to country music
Jessica Simpson has gone country – and plans to stay there, the singer tells The Tennessean.
“I’m planning on making country [music] for the rest of my life, and I don’t want to go back to that other world,” says Simpson, 27. Her latest foray into the country scene has given Simpson a boost in success – and confidence.
After the breakup of Simpson’s marriage to Nick Lachey – and a very public flub of Dolly Parton’s “Nine to Five” at the Kennedy Center Honors in 2006 – Simpson says she was scared to sing onstage.
“I was going through a heartbreak, and I was scattered and shouldn’t have been on that stage,” she tells the newspaper. “There’s no way to convince anybody that you’re comfortable onstage if you’re not.” But after stepping into the studio to record a country song, she declared: “I’m back!”
Simpson spent the last few days in Nashville attending the CMA Music Festival, where she promoted her new single, “Come On Over.”
Simpson says she’s gotten begrudging compliments on the song and has high expectations for her album, due to be released this September. “A lot of people have listened to ‘Come On Over’ and told me, ‘I really wanted to hate it, but I like it,’” she said. ”[It's] a backhanded compliment, but I’m glad it’s that way and not the other way around,”
Adds the singer: “I take a lot of pride in my talent and in the record I was able to put together. I’m not giving up.”

I can’t stand her. Just becuase you suck at pop doesn’t mean you should put out a country album. We don’t want her either! I think her new song sucks. My friends 8 year old could have written it.

i agree with you ruby! i for one cant stand her either because she thinks she sucks at pop she can actually make it in the country world let me say she is no carrie underwood if she is trying well she needs a lot of practice it isn’t the genre of music its the talent the vocals and the person and i doubt she will pull this one off, she is not taken seriously that newlyweds show showed how stupid she really is and if she was faking or not no one takes her serious she’s an idiot and got famous for acting like an idiot it’s not like she got famous because she was a great singer before the show no one cared for her britney and christina took the attention from her and it will happen again there are so many respected and talented people in country i dont think she will make it she will fail because she her voice suck especially live she is studio material. her song come on over is stupid too it has no meaning…but the fact that she is slut and wants her dude really bad…why cant she just go away she’s so full of herself and immature with that stupid shirt mocking carrie “real girls eat meat”
