Angelina Jolie hits out at Disney

Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie has blasted filmmakers Disney for not featuring an African princess in their films – because it upsets her multi-cultural family.

The Tomb Raider star and partner Brad Pitt feel let down by the lack of different cultures featured in children’s films – and are urging the movie giant to be more diverse.

The actress, who is pregnant with twins, insists educating their children about culture is important in the Jolie-Pitt household.
She tells Britain’s OK! magazine, “(So) even the color of the children in the cartoon matters. There still isn’t a Disney princess that’s African and it’s very difficult because our daughters’ getting into princesses right now and it upsets me.”

Jolie and Pitt have three adopted children: Maddox, six; Pax, four; Zahara, three, as well as biological daughter Shiloh, two.

I’m not pro disney, but what about Pocohontas, Mulan, Alladin they all had strong female characters that were from different races. Granted they haven’t had an African princess is true, but they are making an effort.

‘hits out at disney’; ‘blasted disney’.

christ, not too hysterical and misleading in the description. it was a fucking accurate statement.

  3. D Says:

Maybe Ang should teach her daughters that they don’t have to get upset if the princess doesn’t look like them. They haven’t had a multi-racial (which I happen to be) princess and I don’t fucking cry about it.

I really wish she would just go away!

That thought never even crossed my mind at that age. She is the one showing her that she is diffrenet.
She needs to raise her kids as being kids not showing them that they are different. Once they are old enough they learn all that by going to school and interacting w/ diffrenet kids from diffrent cutures and race. My parents never talked about how diffrent we lived (our culture). Once I was old enough I would ask questions.

booooo hooo… just because queen angelina is upset, disney is supposed to create an entire movie character?! get over yourself you freak. we are not all at your beckon call like bradley pitt.

  7. shan Says:

The Princess and the Frog (2009)

    Release Date:25 December 2009

  9. Yes Says:

question… was this an issue before her daughter started getting into princesses? if you really cared about diversity, this would’ve been an issue a long time ago. why do you bring it up now? just because it has relevance to you and your situation? so selfish. that sounds more like a personal problem to me.

  10. Chelsea Says:

Strong words from a privileged white woman who started a family with a privileged white man. I’m not a red headed mermaid but I fucking loved the hell out of Ariel. And if you want your kids to be so different, stop shoving Disney in their faces. It’s the WalMart of movies you idiot. Show them some culture and go find Africa’s answer to animated crap.

  11. Tabitha Says:

Princess Maddy (the princess in question) made CNN headlines earlier in the year. Randy Newman is doing the music. It’s hardly news. Maybe one should do research before one flings arrows, Miss Jolie?
