Rock and roll pioneer Bo Diddley died at his home in Archer, FL Monday. He was 79.

The cause of death was heart failure, his spokesperson said.

Diddley was recovering from a stroke in 2007 that affected his ability to speak.

The musician gained prominence in the 1950s with a self-titled single and a trademark, homemade square guitar.
