Usually, when Jennifer Aniston is introduced to a group of people, everyone else gets nervous. But after arriving for dinner at NYC’s Waverly Inn on May 14, Jen was the one with the jitters. The reason? She was there to meet boyfriend John Mayer — plus John’s younger brother Ben, 29, and his girlfriend, along with one other male pal.

“John and Jen sat next to each other,” a fellow diner says. “He definitely looked more at ease than she did. But they were cute together. He acted like he was showing her one of his favorite spots in town.”

After their leisurely meal — organic chicken pot pie for him and lamb chops for her — and a little tableside canoodling, Jen, 39, and John, 30, made their way to Hudson Bar & Books with their crew around 11 p.m. There, a group of John’s pals, including comedian Sherrod Small, were waiting.

By all accounts, Jen passed this audition with flying colors. “She looked a little scared to meet them,” notes bar patron Sally Lloyd Thomas. “But John was doing his best to make her feel comfortable. He kept giving her little smiles and squeezes.”
