Lucy Liu wants us to pay for tap water for African kids

Kill Bill star Lucy Liu is calling on Americans to pay $1 for tap water in restaurants to help save children’s lives in Africa.
Liu, a United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) ambassador, has just returned from Cote d’Ivoire in Africa, where she witnessed the threat to child survival caused by a lack of clean drinking water. And now the actress is encouraging people to pay for the tap water they’d normally get for free during World Water Week this week – to help raise $1 million to provide African children with purified water.
Liu says, “If you go to a restaurant and they’d give you tap water for free, they’re asking you to donate a dollar for the tap water. “One dollar will provide water for 40 children for one day, which is incredible. It’s kind of great – you get to go out and enjoy food with people and you get to give back in such a small and simple way.”
More than 2,000 restaurants across the U.S. have signed up to participate in World Water Week.

It is great to help people in other countries. But what about children in the United States? There are plenty of children here who are in dire need of care as well.

why can’t she just pay for it herself? I mean, not everyone in North America can afford to pay $1 for tap water.. strange for millionares like lucy, but true

yeah, great idea…so great that she should be donating a million right now! but don’t be a cunt and go asking the American people to “donate $1 for tap water” when there are some of us who barely make enough to pay our own water bill!

No kidding it is only a dollar and it is optional. If you can’t afford it, why are you spending extra money going out for dinner. for those who can’t pay their water bills, you shouldn’t be going out to fancy restaraunts. Yes, she can probably donate a large sum, but she is providing an opportunity for those who cannot donate a lot of money to still help others in need. That can bring in much more than a one time donation on her part. It empowers those who dont have millions and it brings awareness. Much more than a single anonymous donation.
