Two bands you need to hear, A Fine Frenzy and Ben’s Brother

Last night I had the pleasure of seeing two amazing bands in concert. A Fine Frenzy is actually Alison Sudol a 22yr old self taught pianist and singer/songwriter born in Seattle and raised in LA. She is truly amazing in concert, she has a way of performing that makes you feel as if you are just hanging out together and she is singing just for you. A Fine Frenzy’s poetic and fairytale like lyrics are enhanced by her haunting voice and electronica sound.
If you haven’t had the chance to listen to her album I suggest running out and getting it for the weekend. Beyond her recent hit “Almost Lover” there are a lot of great tracks on the album “You Picked Me” and the “Minnow and the Trout” are a few of my favorites. I am sure this is the first of many great albums for Alison Sudol.

Ben’s Brother opened for a Fine Frenzy and blew me away with their music. Ben’s Brother is so named after frontman/founder Jamie Hartman’s older brother Ben, whose shadow Jamie grew up in. The title from the debut album was inspired by the fact that Jamie always saw himself as the beta male in the family.
Jamie’s voice has a great gritty quality to it, from the first song I was drawn in by the catchy music and the lyrics, I am still humming some of them today. Ben’s Brother really stands out their sound is familiar but completely individual, you may have heard their song “Stuttering” in a Dentyne commercial but that only scratches the surface of the talent of this group.
