George Clooney’s lie almost killed his acting career

Hollywood hunk George Clooney almost didn’t make it as an actor, because he lied to a casting agent trying to get his first break. The actor was desperate to land his first movie role and tried to trick a studio boss into believing he had previously worked on 1982 movie Cat People. George was caught red-handed in the lie, because it was the same casting agent for both movies.
George’s charm had paid off and he was offered another role, enabling him to become a member of the Screen Actors Guild, even though the movie was never released.
He says, “You couldn’t get a job without getting into the Screen Actors Guild, so everybody would make up these credits just to get in. They didn’t have internet then so you go away with anything. I remember lying to a casting director about this movie Cat People. She was like, ‘You were in that?’ I was, like, yep, and she goes, ‘Because I cast that.’ I finally just said, ‘I can’t get in the SAG. Help me!’ She helped me get a job on a film called The Predator. The movie never came out, that’s how bad a film it was. But I got my SAG card.”
