Carla Bruni & Nicolas Sarkozy win unauthorized photo lawsuit
French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his former supermodel wife Carla Bruni, have successfully sued a budget airline after they used a photograph of the couple without permission. The pair was awarded $90,000 in compensation after arguing that Ryanair published their picture in an advertisement with seeking their authorization.
The compensation fell short of the $740,000 which Bruni had originally demanded, whereas Sarkozy only requested a symbolic payment of just one euro. Ryanair was also ordered to have the court ruling printed in Le Parisien newspaper, where the ad appeared last week.
The image was accompanied by a caption that read: “With Ryanair, my whole family can come to my wedding.”
