Ellen Page slams US media for it’s treatment of Britney Spears.

Ellen Page has slammed the U.S media for its treatment of troubled singer Britney Spears, branding its behaviour “sickening”. The Juno star says she sympathises with Spears because she could have been in a similar situation had she begun her career at a younger age.
Page was asked to relocate to Los Angeles to star in a TV sitcom at just 13 - but turned down the role to finish schooling in her native Canada. And the 20-year-old is convinced that had she accepted the part, she could have been a misled teen - and a victim of the tabloids’ prying paparazzi.
She explains, “It definitely happens to some people and it doesn’t to others. It’s really unfortunate - I wish there was more compassion for those people versus just relentless judgments. It’s sickening.
“I feel bad, you know - they were hyper-sexualised at the age of 16, not guided or taken care of or nurtured properly. And now people treat it like it’s a joke. Let’s splatter their face on newspapers every day and show them being taken out of their house on a stretcher! It’s like, why don’t we ask why this is happening? It makes me very angry.”

People are responsible for their own actions, though. There are alot of people who have very negative influences in their life - and who have had horrible things happen to them, but they still grow up to be adults.
Britney neglected her children for a long time, (getting photographed out EVERY night after the divorce) and appeared not to give to craps about them. (and) Then when authorities finally took away all of her custodial rights she freaks out and keeps having mental breakdowns. We’re supposed to feel sorry for her?
She’s the one dating paps, inviting them into her house to party, constantly going out for every mundane thing, etc, etc. She wants the attention. Only every once in ahile will she protest them being there.
I think celebs who pretend that their lives are hard come off as foolish. I WISH I had the money that they have! I would keep my happy a** at home with my kids and enjoy my income!!! Hell, I make nowhere near what they make and I enjoy my life with my family. If they want to deal with hard - they should step into the lives of regular people. That’s hard!
Look at Christina Aguilera, Mandy Moore, and Hilary Duff …are they Britney Spears? No. They don’t allow fame to excuse them to act like idiots.

It’s happening because she courts it. Plenty of people don’t and lead pretty normal lives.
Sure, responsibility falls on parents and maybe even society up to a certain age or point. However, as adults we’re all responsible for our actions and choices. Just because she was singing at 16 and being paid millions doesn’t make her any less accountable than it does a person who worked in a grocery store at the same age.
If dfcs was told I was leaving my infant and barely toddler aged kids home every night with strangers (and that’s what a temp nanny is) to go be as drunk as she was and as flagrantly promiscuous as she was being, they would have known there would be no way on earth I could have been a capable parent during the day either. And they would have done something about it.
But for her it takes a heck of a lot more for her to be made to be held accountable. Meanwhile, she has to keep up-ing her behaviors to maintain that attention she craves. Grow up. The rest of society has to. Why should she get to be the exception? And why should everyone feel sorry for her because she, as an adult, chooses to behave like she’s above consequences for her actions?

This young lady is great. She’s one of the few good eggs in Hollywood; I hope she doesn’t get corrupted.

I agree with her.

We are forgetting that Britney has a disease…bipolar.
I agree with Ellen Page…I’m glad she has spoken up about this!!

More celebrities should come to Britney defense–Britney is a victim of the media.

All of this stuff about bi-polar is typical media nonsense. If you noticed, her strange behavior really didn’t start until AFTER her marriage ended and she had kids. Up until that point she had some semblance of normalcy to her.
This is just another way to try to explain her and get her out of her problems. If she had bi-polar before this the paparazzi would surely have given it some attention. She’s in the media eye 24/7.
Let’s give up the excuses and lay some blame at her and her parents feet.
The paparazzi are scum and deserve to be buried but BS loves the attention and brought most of this on herself. If she stayed home with her kids more that might have helped.

Britney’s bipolar disorder is not just an excuse for her to act the way she does. Take a look at some literature on bipolar disorder:
Britney’s bipolar disorder, like any other human’s bipolar disorder, can lie dormant for years before something traumatic (divorce, extremely hateful tabloid coverage, etc) triggers a manic episode. I bet that if you look hard enough at archived tabloid coverage, you will find a few incidents where Brit’s bipolar disorder manifested itself, but noone caught it at the time because it wasn’t as obvious as it is now, with her talking in accents and having very public mental breakdowns.
This poor girl is at her breaking point and if we keep pushing, she will break. Leave her alone, let her get treatment, and when she is well, she can wow us all again.

Also, of course she loves the attention. She thinks that fame is the only component of who she is, because she spent so many of her developmental years in the spotlight.
It’s like when a smoker tries to quit: they feel like they’re losing a part of themselves.

It didn’t begin until after her kids because pregancy can trigger Bi-Polar. I have Bi-polar 2 and I have studied thoroughly trying to understand it. Bi -Polar 1 is what Britney has. It is basically an identity crisis. Not knowing who you are or believing you are several people. It is a very tough illness and I couldn’t of imagined the affect of going through that in the public eye. I feel extremely bad for her.

Jiny, people usually come on blogs because they have some time to kill, so yeah, I guess maybe a few of us had some time to waste (Including yourself)
The comments section is also a typical place for people to voice their opinion on whatever is being discussed, so if you don’t want to hear what people have to say about the issue, you shouldn’t exactly be wandering around on the comments board, because not everyone is going to agree with what is said.

Alex I come here because I like fashion and sometimes I care about famous people, but you’ll never see me writting a book about them, judging and their lives and the way the behave like I’d handle my life better 7 days /week..

I would like to suck on ellen’s toes. That is all.
February 5th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
I hear what you’re saying Jiny, I’m not one to write a book about celebrities either, we’re on the same page. I guess I just thought you were a bit hostile in your initial response and couldn’t understand why.
In any case, it doesn’t really matter since none of this really effects us in any way, and besides, I have an agenda in posting here: I really dislike this Juno chick and she annoys the hell out of me! Haha

I encourage some of you to make sure you’re educated about certain things before you claim them as facts. So i’d thought I’d clarify something for you..
Bipolar Disorder whether it is Bipolar 1 or Bipolar 11 doesn’t deal with multiple personalities or identity..It IS A MOOD disorder.. Bipolar Disorder is an implication that someone has major depressive episodes which then alternate with either full manic episodes or hypomanic episodes.
“Brit’s bipolar disorder manifested itself, but noone caught it at the time because it wasn’t as obvious as it is now, with her talking in accents and having very public mental breakdowns.”
Talking accents have nothing to do with bipolar disorder and we cant guarantee that she has this disorder because of media coverage. That’s ridiculous. Although I agree, that if she is impaired to make decisions about her life(which seems that way) then you can’t blame her of course… but you can’t blame the media either. The two people who I believe are responsible for her starting at a young age and having no grounding are her parents.

I’m a psych nurse and for a year I’ve been telling anyone that will hear me that the girl is bipolar. There was a guy who dated her for a week or something and then sold his story to a tabloid: what her revealed about her life offered a veritable checklist of bipolar symptoms.
Responsibility and accountability go only so far with someone who IS SICK. She is mentally ill - I say give the girl a break (and treatment)!
